Lou Del Rosso of Guitars'n Jazz in Summit, NJ was the facilitator for this trade. The owner of the guitar can't remember where the top part of the bridge went. Maybe he'll come up with it sooner than later. He did make a video documenting the guitar, and Lou has promised to try and get a CD of that documentary for me. Let's see. You're right about Bishop Stern. I visited today and showed him the AA. There was a small loose screw inside the tuner for the "D" string which wasn't keeping the post down in the hole. He fixed that easily. After researching options for the bridge restoration, I'll go back to Bishop. At the moment, though, the current bridge is just fine....intonation is excellent also.
Between the two of us, we have probably funded an addition on Bishop’s house.

Just kidding. His services are both excellent and affordable.

Bishop has my LG-3 in the shop right now for a long-overdue neck reset.

I saw him just yesterday. Thinking of installing a vintage DeArmond 1000 on the ‘37 Gibson L 5. His shop was full of guitars for him to work on. The pandemic hasn't negatively impacted him work wise -- might have even increased things a bit, as we pickers are doin' a lot more pickin' these days I expect.

Didn’t Pete’s Guild belong to Merle Travis at one point?
No, the other way around. Pete Townshend owned one of the at least 5 known Guild Merle Travis Models. (See Hans book pages 100 and 170 and other discussions here).
But Pete sold her to buy one of his boats...

Here's one of them (they all have different pickups):

Truth be told...It was a trade + $1,500. Still, I'm not complaining. Not many of 'em were made. Maybe Hans can tell us how many. Hans? The A-500 is a great jazz box cum acoustic all rounder. This AA is all of that and a bit more sweetness, due to the bigger size plus workmanship. I don't know if the larger headstock also contributes to the depth of the sound. Even if it doesn't the headstock takes Guild one step further in the realm of boutique-ness.

That makes a little more sense, but for me you still came out on top of that deal. "the winner gets the award"

Does any LTGer want to help me find and fund a Guild Travis model? :D Neal?

You are the man Rich! That guitar is outstanding.

I've come close to buying an AA a couple of times, but got a massive inferiority complex when I got within a few feet of them both times. I'm truly not worthy. And @Neal, I see you've gone down the vintage Martin/Gibson rabbit hole. I might pick your brain a little about that if it's OK with you.

Fine with me, Sandy. My secret? I buy cosmetically-challenged examples that scare other buyers off. Then, I put a little money into getting them right. That is where having a good luthier like Bishop on speed dial comes in handy.

I’ve bought some basket cases, and had the pleasure of bringing them back to life. The thing is, tone is tone, regardless of what the guitar looks like.

That's exactly my philosophy Neal. I want a '58 Gibson round shoulder as it's a birth year guitar, and I've never found a suitable '58 Guild (still open for that though). I'm very lucky to have a superb luthier too. He can be really slow with big jobs, but he's so reasonable you don't mind. I'd love to rescue an old Gibby.

Battered vintage Gibsons are still affordable. Battered vintage Martins are another story entirely, especially dreadnoughts and 000’s.

I have a $2,500 dollar max. Keeps me out of trouble.
