Hello fellow Guild owners!
My name is Jan and I am a guitar weenie!
I just traded a wonderful Custom Martin koa 000-16SK2 for a 1964 m20 and some cash.
This is the second m20 I have owned.
The first was a 1977 from Rhode Island with the cherry finish.
I have also owned a Guild Mark IV classical.
I live in Northern Cal., just north of San Francisco. My father introduced me to both guitar and violin at age 8.I played violin and viola semi-professionally in the bay area for some years.
A stroke side-tracked me for about 6 years and I picked up the guitar and started to play again.
I am a retired R.N. and do research and am a local historian.
I am also a member of the UMGF and I won't take any cracks about it!
Happy to be here and I look forward to meeting you all.
Take care,
Jan
P.S. I see my buddy Mike Oso is here! Hey Mike! :D

Edit-it is a 1967 m20.Thanks for the info Hans

Welcome, Jan.

With a classical background, what type of music do you play on guitar and how does your experience with the violin influence how you approach the instrument and where you want to take it these days?

Jan,

I'd love to make a wise crack about the UMGF if I knew what that was, so I guess I'll refrain. Great to have you here.....welcome.

What's a Martin?

West

West,

The Martin Company was a famous maker of fishing reels.

Their products were all the rage prior to the great war. Sadly the company disappeared , the war effort diverted the raw materials used in reel production to more useful tools of war.

Welcome Jan.

I'm President, (self elected) of the Small Body (unofficial) sub membership here.

How much money ya got left over from selling the Martin, there's the coolest F 20 on Ebay right now.

Welcome Jan. I saw your name on the Martin site....I lurked there and joined recently. It's a great site here with a bunch of good people. Funny, I am the original owner of a 1978 Guild D25CH and just took delivery of a 2006 Martin 000-16GT yesterday...just the opposite of you ('cept I'm keeping the Guild too). We look forward to your posting.

That must have been some fishin' reel. Is it a bait caster, spinninner, what? Which part of it was wood? Did you have to treat it to protect it from the water?

I gotta go lurk at the fishin' reel forum, who knew.
