Hi Folks!
My name is Paul, and I am a guitar-a-holic. It started harmlessly enough when I purchased a "genuine CF Suzuki", while stationed in W. Berlin Germany, over 30 years ago. I was fine for a long time, really! Then about 13 years ago, I recieved a used Martin dred from my (then) wife for an anniversary present and it all started to slip away...! From Martin(s), I went on to the "hard stuff", Santa Cruz and Huss and Dalton, and not just one, no way...if one is that good why not 2, or 3!!! Oh and the Strat, that rarely leaves its case and the Kalamazoo Archtop, that I needed (I didn't have one) and... well I guess you folks understand?
I have been lurking here for a short time now after I was refered here by a fellow member of the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum, where I had posted about a new (used) Guild 12 string I recently acquired. I've always had a kinfof love/hate relationship with 12 stringers, probably because the others I have owned were, shall we say, cheap. Anyway over the years I have come to understand that when it comes to 12 string guitars, the Guilds I would play, were always among the most pleasing, so when this Guild showed up on Craigslist I had to test the waters again.
So now my first question, the Guild I purchased is a 1992 D4-12E NT, it is a nice example, in almost "unplayed" condition, neck is good, no belly, bridge is tight, ample saddle left, all in all a very nice example and a good 12 string sound. Here is the first pic.

I tried to check the guild site to see if I could figure out what the "E" designates in the model number, and I assumed it had a pick-up, but there is none! Here is a pic of the interior label.

and another of the serial number.

So if it's not electric, is it a typo, or is there something else in the world of Guild guitars that I am missing? Thanks in advance for any info, I look forward to learning much about another storied, American guitar company here.

Hello Paul,

Welcome! The 'E' in the model designation stands for a built-in tranducer. It is possible that this guitar did get the wrong label or it should have gotten a transducer but somehow the person working in 'final assembly' missed the 'E' part of the set up job. These things happened from time to time. It's not a big deal. Just add a transducer and nobody will ever ask you any questions about it.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Paul, welcome to LTG (we met over in the UMGF)! Enjoy your D-4-12! That's a nice axe for sure! And, indeed, Hans confirmed what I suspected.

Hi Paul, and welcome.

Lots of folks here play a 12 string, but I'm not aware of anyone else who plays a 10 string.

Hi All, Thanks for the kind words! Thanks Hans for the clarification of the "E" designation, guess it must have just been a "off" day back in 1992 when this one rolled of the line. As for the 10 string version shown, I guess since I primarily play 6 string guitars, I could claim that I am slowly working my way up to the full 12 string compliment... While I do need to get a new set of light guage PB's to put on this, I was able to find 2 additional loose strings, so at least it is fully strung up now. Anyway, again, thanks for the warm welcome...I hope to spend some time here, to learn about Guild and maybe contribute something of my own experiences with this addiction we know as the acoustic guitar!

Paul,

Welcome to the other side.
Your 12 string is an older brother to mine and I remain entranced by the sound it produces. Tune yours down to D and you'll experience a little bit of heaven.

Cheers,
Joe

Welcome Paul, kick your shoes back, relax your mind. You're completely correct, this is NOT a place to work on your 12-step program for GAS.

By the way...you get a lot of extra credit for posting pictures on your first/intro post! Nice guitar, no matter how many strings you're using.

Welcome to LTG Paul. Lots of wonderful folks here and great information to boot. Me...I'm a confessed Guildaholic. There is no known cure...but with the support of the fine people here I have learned to embrace this affliction, and feed it well. My next acquisition is going to be a JF-30-12. We all need a good 12 string right? :D
