I've played enough crack repaired guitars of all types to form the opinion a proper crack repair has no effect on tone. The guitar I've played with the best tone I've ever heard was a 39 J 35. I quit counting cracks at 25 or so, and some were a foot or longer. The neck came to the shop in three pieces.

I had a D35 from early 70s a while back. It was a mess, got it off Reverb. It sounded good and after taking it out east for a summer trip with family, playing it often all over, when I returned I ended up gifting it to a friend who tinkers with repairing his own guitars. He says to me after a few weeks with, after he repaired what was wrong, he was surprised the top did not fall off its body while I was playing it, all the bracing issues and cracks underneath. lol. "Made to be played, even when other guitars won't be able to..."

Thanks for all the help and info guitar masters! I really appreciate your taking the time to share your knowledge!
I took the strings off the D35 and tried to take a photo of the area on the inside of the top where the crack is forming. For some reason I had a hard time getting a good pic. The neck block is bottom right, popsicle brace in the middle, and the "First Brace" is at the top. The sound hole is just out of frame at the top. The pic is on an angle.

I don't see anything obvious in the pic... If you wanted to be sure there wasn't a thru crack, wet the top area with the supposed crack with naphtha, then look inside and see if any wicked thru (your luthier/tech will likely do this when he evaluates the guitar).

There has to be a through crack to cause the planes of the soundhole crack to be out of alignment. Otherwise it would just be a crack where both sides were aligned. This happens on the pickguard side from pickguard shrinkage. Have it professionally fixed.
