I came across this nice goldtop Bluesbird for less than 1000$CDN, so I just couldn't let somebody else have it. So here it is. She's been played, but apart from a few pick scratches, one chip and the tarnished pickup covers, she's in a pretty good shape. The playability is great and the sound, holy molly! Even unplugged she sounds great.

Here are some shots of my little "Goldie"

Now, would it be sacrilegeous to add a phase switch? I really like the phase switch on my S-100, and I'm sure it would be a great add-on for my Bluesbird. Ok, maybe just a pull-push knob then...

Very nice.

I suppose the push-pull pot for phase control mod would be okay, but we'll all have to vote first.

Just kidding. It's your guitar, man.

Me too. If you want the in-phase/out-of-phase thing, play the S-100. Otherwise, let the Bluesbird do its thing. What year is it?

I think any mod that can be reversable is ok.

I keep thinking of adding a Guidl bigsby from a S100 Deluxe to my Gold Bluesbird. I did it on the P90 "Nightengale" and it worked ok. I don't want to do that non-reversable mod unless I am sure I am going to keep "goldi" . Since I had "goldi" for over 6 years I guess it is in my stable but the beautiful AAA finishes the Bluesbird's come in has me thinking of a swap/upgrade.

There is no doubt that the modern Guild Bluesbirds are greatly under appreciated in the market place. Excellent guitar in all ways. These guitars have gone up in value over the years and paying over $1200 is common these days.

It's a 2000. Ok, I won't mod it... for now.

And matsickma, I really like those AAA flametops too, but I've always had a sweet spot for the goldtops.

Hey, I've got 2 Guilds now, I never thought I would have 2 guitars from the same make (I like variety). But those Guild solidbodies just have that little something. :)

As long as you can reverse the mods, I see no problem. Especially electrical wiring. Phase switching is so useful.

Nice man!

I think staying within the same make is fine, but I've been known to have problems with replication. Used to be Peavey T-60s (I've bought and sold four) and T-25s (I've bought three, sold two), and I've owned 12 Peaveys total. They are the greatest value in vintage American made guitars. And now it's S-100s (three) and Guilds (eight total). I absolutely agree with you that Guild solidbodies "just have that little something." Actually, they've got a lot of that little something.

All those Guild solidbodies and I don't have a Bluesbird. Hmmmmmm.

Exactly! You need a Bluesbird...if for no other reason than it will keep you away from the S-100s! :p

No, what I need is to quit buying every vintage Guild solidbody I see. What I want is ... to buy every vintage Guild solidbody that I see. Therein lies the problem, the internal (eternal) conflict that rages inside my cranium.

If I may introduce my 2 cents here.....
Yes Thunder, you do need a bluesbird.
Does this help any?

I'm not reading ... La-La-La-La-La ... no, wait, you'd do that if you were covering your ears. Let's get back to the subject at hand, which is Pwal's excellent new Bluesbird. Again, nice score, Pwal.

I have to say I would be as puzzled as you to make a choice (and saying this does not help, sorry)
