Hang in there Telegeir. You're hunting a rare bird but they do come up now and then. Usually one or two a year. You also might want to think about putting the word out to some of the bigger vintage dealers and let them know that you're looking. Jay at New Hope Guitars and the Elderly guys seem to get a steady stream of nice Guilds. You might pay a bit more, but you'll know what you're getting. Here's one from awhile back that I should have pulled the trigger on...

Yes. That one at Elderlys comes up high on Google searches, so I have seen that. But only after it was no longer available. That also influenced my idea about price.

Do you happen to know how long ago that was?

Geir :)

well i got one. thank you Billy D Light, your a good man. Billy originally had dynas on here and lost the Duncan P90s, it now had Lollar 50s low output pups on and sounds like a million bucks. Not a collector piece with holes from the dynas and a non original pinned bridge but i dont care, just glad i got one. Thanks for looking.

Wow! That is a beautiful pair.

I seem to be in the minority on preferring guitars with a sound post but my approach to the P90 (and dynasonic) model Archtop is to modify, in a reversable way, X160/X170's. The family picture shown below is Left to Right 1) a Blond X170 upgrades to a "T" with reissue Dynasonics and NOS Guild '80's gold knobs, 2) early model X161 with Harmonic Design Z90 PUPS and chrome rings and 3) Stock "Mars Music" version X170T with coil tap.

I found the Blond Dynasonic X170 to be the most difficult to get the tone right. I initially had a gold Bigsby rocker bridge on it but it had a harsh tone to it. I installed the stock rose wood bridge and found this sounds smoother. I am not sure if I am a fan of Gretsch reissue dynasonics.

I usually take my pictures outside to get more natural lighting but with the winter weather I snapped these inside.

The wife was hanging around an asked if I am getting ready to sell them? :?

This isn't good. :(

I told her I was taking a few pictures "just in case". She let it go at that.

Dang, I got to set up better lightening in the basement.

 Funny you mention about taking the pics indoors. I was looking at a vintage Gibson L48 archtop on ebay just yesterday and the sellers pics were numerous and on an outdoor deck.........with snow clearly visible in the background! Gasp! I almost sent a "Dude, are you friggin' crazy!" email but refrained. I'm hoping it was an "Indian Summer" type day or he was quick about taking the pics, no reason to add to the finish checking by stupidity.

That guitar was always a work in progress for me.

I eventually had white vintage DeArmonds in it and 4 Guild Ice cube Knobs. The original Guild compensated Bigsby bridge was breaking strings badly. I think the Lollars were definitely an upgrade over the Duncans.

But alas I never did Bond with her the way I wanted to (and I tried) I am glad she is with someone who really appreciates what she brings to the table. It was a good deal and Charlie is a very patient guy and a Gentleman!!

They're a little underwound for a DeArmond. I had a bridge position one rewound hotter (more in line with the "real thing), and the difference is not subtle : no more harshness, healthier output, fatter midrange, drives the amp in a nicer way, and you can even get it to sound almost like a P90. I'd send at least the lead pickup off to Fralin for a re-wind.

Thanks Billy. I love those ice cube knobs, gonna have to try and track some down.
I just recently put Duncan Dynas in my x-160, it was a big improvement, but maybe to much money. Hopefully TV Jones's will be a little more affordable.

Hi folks! Talking about X-500T Stuart...Ive had the pleasure of owning one for about 15 years now. It' a 1988. Ive been in the music biz most all my life...sold, played and serviced a lot of really great guitars but I do have to say that this X-500T Stuart is among the best playing jazz instruments Ive ever owned, much less played. In addition to being a long time Guild endorser and afficionado, I also own a FMIC warranty service center. We specialize in Amplifier service, but also do guitar service as well.

My X-500 doesnt have the "T" suffix on the label but indeed did come with the factory Guild gold Bigsby tailpiece. I bought it (actually my wife bought it) at an estate sale back in 1994. Only defect on it is a cracked pickup mounting ring on the bridge pickup. You'd think being a service rep for Guild we'd be able to replace it...not so. The pickup rings used back in the older models are not the same as the ones on FMIC models, so we just hang with the cracked one as it does no harm.

Here is a kind of lousy picture of my this guitar.
