Let's see your stools. Here's mine and why I hate it.

The soundseat is very pricey. What makes me pause is that you can customize the build to fit your size , the people that have them say they are very comfortable, and those that have had them show pictures of chairs 10 years old that look new.

I had a director's stool that I would remove the back and let the arms hang that I got rid of during a move.
I just bought a roc n soc short tower that's working out nicely. The padded seat makes it easy for long practice sessions.

No doubt they're pricey, but I've spent a lot more on gear that I've used a lot less than the soundseat. I look at it as an upgrade to all my guitars. I looked at the roc n soc as well, but figured I'd still want the soundseat.

Basically I spent a lot of time rationalizing it before I made the purchase :) , but never looked back once I started using it.

Boys, boys, boys!
Fancy-schmancy dedicated and over-priced stools! Really?
If I want to play al fresco, I schlepp a metal, folding Bridge Chair out of the garage and I'm good to go. Cheap, cheerful, light and who cares if it gets scuffed or dirty when it's thrown in the trunk to take on tour?
Science of the Rocket this ain't.

I don't think rocket chairs would be that comfortable.

I don't get to play with others or outside my house much at all, so the portability factor is not a high selling point for me.

First off is a "Musicians Friend" guitar chair...essentially a Canadian-rocker without arms. Great for playing guitar, but for me not so great as a replacment living-room chair, back angle just not quite right for me. That said, we have two, one downstairs and one in bedroom.

Second is a simple wooden folding chair from Ocean State Job Lots; we bought four as "overflow" seating at Thanksgiving, padded so more comfortable than the standard folding metal chair. Height is just right for me at 6" tall for guitar playing on front porch.

As to the Guild stool, I have both sizes (both Country AND Western ;))...I find the taller one great when working at basement workbench but too tall to play guitar on...I find the shorter one better for guitar, though if it was just an inch shorter it would be just right.

Somewhere in the basement, I have a three leg drum-throne, a copy of the new style Ludwig came out with in the middle 60's (it was labeled "Midland, " like the Asian electronics company) which is still hard to beat. Had the seat recovered once, and my father had a metal foot rest made in his machine shop. Alas, the rubber feet are shot and not sure how/where to replace them...

Mine is solid teak. Perfect height. No arms.
Super comfy. I play standing 99% of time but when I need to sit a little, this stool works great!
