Let's see your stools. Here's mine and why I hate it.

They have a good stool, also!

Do you have a great guitar playing stool/ chair? Years ago I decided to get a dedicated music chair so I bought a Quicklock musicians chair. Here's a photo followed by the reasons why I hate it:
20220709_083020.jpg

1 its too big, the footprint is bigger than the stool and the back sticks out. takes up space.
2 its heavy, hard to move. It folds but not flat unless you remove the seat, backrest and footrest. Not really portable.
3 its too tall at its lowest position to rest my feet on the floor. I have to put my feet on the foot rest then the rubber ends slide off
4 its loud. Seriously for a "musician's chair", I had this thing in my home studio and it creaks. You have to be careful to hold still if there's a live mic nearby

Who has the perfect guitar playing chair? I want to see it!
I have one of those and hate it as well. The seat broke right off on me. It was a gift so I reinforced it, but it’s so uncomfortable I ultimately sent it to the attic. One of these days I’m going to break down and buy a Soundseat.

I broke down and ordered one of these a couple of years ago and never regretted it. I figured for the amount of time and money I spend playing, it makes no sense to do so in pain from a hard stool. I'd highly encourage you to bite the bullet - the sooner you order one, the more time you'll have to spend using it.

You know what Coop, you are right. I’m doing it. I just check my past emails and see I was in touch with them in 2019 to discuss options but I balked, then again in 2020 but balked. Time to get comfortable dammit.

Although I always play sitting down, I have neither the space nor the need for a music stool.
Instead, I sit on the edge of our bed, with my music stand in front of me and a strapped guitar on my lap.
Works like a champ.

I have a practice space set up with drums in my basement. My brother is the drummer, he found he prefers a round drum throne. He left this at my house when he quit using it. I adjust the height so it’s comfy with my left foot up on my guitar case.

Good for you. I found that calling them was easiest if you have any questions. I went for the flex back, foot ring, and foot plate - happy with all my decisions. I can't remember what I got for the gas lift, but that's what I wound up calling for. Casters were the right choice for me too, but it depends on your practice space - mine's small and often need to move the chair out of the way to pull out guitars or put back gear.

Drop me a PM if I can help with anything.

Yeah, the one in your picture looks useless. I have three I like a lot:

- For livingroom practice: a tall maple stool with a highly beveled and scooped bialy-like seat (the kind they had in my high school art classroom) — $7 at a yard sale.

- For sit-down gigs: A folding chair with a tough nylon mesh fabric seat and back — about $25 at Target.

- For basement practice: A modernistic thing with straight vertical maple legs and bent plywood seat and back — about $5 at a yard sale.

Don't have any pictures. They're all real comfortable. I went through lots of other yard sale and Goodwill attempts before I had these, mostly upholstered swivel chairs that felt fine but were too awkward to take out of the house and squeaked a lot.

I might bring the modern up to the living room some day, but I need tower clearance first.

Here's mine, a bar stool (multi purpose!) Fell in love with it in Vienna without being able to check it out with a guitar. Turned out to be a very good buy.

Can't beat the tractor seat, though.

Any comfortable office desk type chair w/ air piston height adjustment suits me fine. I simply take the arm rests off (usually just 2 thread bolts holding them on) and I'm in business. I can either sit upright on the front edge like it's a stool, or I can comfortably lean back w/ the guitar resting in my lap if I want to noodle while watching tv.

That stool has superior style! I see it works for banjo too.

I found this on the sidewalk near my apartment … though in truth the cat gets more use out of it than me:

I've tried a few, but they squeaked too much. And they didn't like getting loaded in a car.

I had one of those and I think I ended up throwing it away. I also tried one of the Gator Frameworks stools:

I sent that back too. This is the one I use now and it works very well for me:

I don't take it out of the house, but it does not weigh much, less than either my Fishman or Genz Benz amps. Give it a try, you can always send it back.
