The JF30-12 has always seemed like a great bargain. I think if I were looking for a maple Guild 12er, that'd be the one I'd look for.

I played the GAD version of this guitar and I was a bit underwhelmed, however. I think the specs are different (flat back vs. arched, I think) than the US versions, and I'll have to get my hands on one one of these days....

I have to take back this comment. It may be that there is variance among the individual guitars, but I played a 'burst GAD JF30-12 today in the music store that was sublime. Had all the Guild sound I expect. I A/B'd this with a Tacoma F512, and I was shocked.

These GADs may not be arched backs, but they are solid maple, and really the tiger stripe on today's burst was lovely. I don't like what they've done with the truss rods (adjust from the soundhole and no TRC on the peghead), but otherwise the guitar seemed well constructed.

I'm not sure what to say. I think I may have misjudged the GAD JF30-12 earlier (or maybe that axe was a bit of a dud). I'm going to keep checking them out.

That said, I've got a Westerly JF30-12 on the way. I'm going to do an A/B of that one with the one in the guitar store when I get it later in the week. Tallyho!

I think they are different sized bodies. The GAD looks smaller. The GAD 12-strings are pretty good, but probably not as beefy sounding as the US Guilds.

I'll check the dimensions when I get my Westerly tomorrow. But, Steve, seriously... not in the case of the JF30-12E I played yesterday. Nope, not at all.

I don't doubt you my man. I may be one of the few that owns a GAD and a Westerly Guild 12-string. I can't say that the GAD is vastly inferior at all. In fact, it's the lightest with the easiest neck, almost sporty in comparison. Not as much bottom end, but that very crisp and bell-like Guild mahogany tone, very responsive. I'll probably hang onto it, given that resale on these is so pitiful for some reason, except for this one, inexplicably :

And how do I get the quote thing to work right? Mine look all cryptic.
