Who all owns one? What about these 2? I want a 12. I'd like a JF-65-12 if anyone knows of a good one for a great price. One of these would probably help my GAS. One has some bids & the other is a BIN or best offer.

How hard are these 12 strings to play. I guess if you can chord one you should be able to do good on a six.

The seller sent me some shots of a few things & they looked ok photoshop. I guess as long as the neck is good & few nicks want matter. I don't want to pay for a reset. What year did Westerly use the tortise 'guards. Seems the late '90's were black as I remember.

Any thoughts on these? If any of ya'll were bidding on the two, which do you think would be the better? One is being bid on & has a reserve not even near what it will go for.

:p Hello Jacob........Guildmark and Scratch make it look easy, but I find it exactly twice as hard to play a 12 as I do a 6. I think maybe I don't like to work as hard as they do, but my gosh, what a reward you get if you can hit 'em all. I've got a JF30....tremendous guitars they are. You can't go wrong with a JF30, pretty mudane, but beautiful that way and sound like a piano.

I have a 1991 JF-30-12 that I bought new.
It has a great tone and plenty of volume.
The Maple sides and back are a thing of beauty.
JF-30-12's are less ornate than other Guild 12 strings and that makes them a bargin to purchase used.
The only thing that I don't like about mine is the big neck.
In one of the adds that you posted it states that the guitar has a slim, easy to play neck.
I doubt it!
Guild uses 2 truss rods in their 12 strings and the wider neck with 2 truss rods make these necks strong.
I have seen other brands of 12 strings that has twisted and warped necks because they were not built string enough.

Guild knows how to make a strong neck, but it is a bit harder for me to play.
If you can, play a few Guild 12 string Jumbo guitars before you buy one to make sure that you will like the neck.

Love my '94. Sweet guitar!

I don't play a six sting anywhere near as good as folks like West... so for some reason, to me, a 12 isn't much harder at all assuming you have one with good action and a nice set up. It's all about playability with 12's. These JF30-12's ring out like a chorus... or a grand piano. Truly beautiful and crisp sounding... somewhat bright, but not at all in a bad or thin way... it's actually a pretty strong/distinctive tone. Great recording guitars, especially when paired with a mahogany 6 string.

Can't say enough good about mine so if you have a shot at a nice one, grab it. If you want and need the bling of a JF65-12, hold out until you can afford one.

The JF30-12 has always seemed like a great bargain. I think if I were looking for a maple Guild 12er, that'd be the one I'd look for.

I played the GAD version of this guitar and I was a bit underwhelmed, however. I think the specs are different (flat back vs. arched, I think) than the US versions, and I'll have to get my hands on one one of these days....

Been eyeing one ending in 30 mins. I can buy alot of dance classes for $850-$900   Most of my Fenders & some Guilds just don't get played everyday like they should. My DV-52 is out & sounds fine. Let me get back & make up my mind. Any thoughts on the above auction only at $500+ right now & no reserve?

IMO, the JF-30-12 is one awesome guitar and probably the very best quality 12er buy out there. I've noticed the prices inching up within the past few months. I belive my (oops... Grammy's!) Bertha is probably the sweetest and easiest playing 12er I've had the pleasure of strumming. I'm so comforted to know she'll soon reside in a Place in Canada where she'll be held and played lovingly. There I go getting emotional 'bout my gitters agin... I thought I might buy an F-412 to replace her, but I just might go with another JF-30-12. One awesome hunka wood... Good luck Jake...

I've listed a few guitars on eBay lately. At least 2/3 of the inquiries/offers are overseas!

Really no surprise there... Currency devaluation and all.

I'm happy for the rest of the world (and the shipping business)... ;)

8) My JF-30-12 arrived yesterday at my store. But I didn't go to work. I rode my bike today so I couldn't bring her home tonite. I'll have to wait 'til Friday when I drive 4 wheels again to bring her home. Guildzilla did a fine job of boxing her up & had the strings loosened. I could not tune her at the store 'cause I needs me a tuner to do it. I'll have this weekend to play around & see how she sounds. Nice ax for a 1987 model.

Those 10's sure sound like they are going to be flimsy but I guess that is what I should keep on her especially if kept tuned to concert, right? Anyone use a heavier set on 12's?

I thought you would be pleased with the condition, Jake. The sound is even better.

My two cents on your question would be that I can't recall anyone on here using heavier strings on a 12-string than the .10-.47 set on your guitar and tuning to concert pitch. But I could stand corrected on that observation.

You will be surprised at how good the light guage strings will sound when tuned up.
You won't need to put heavier E strings on the guitar.
One thing that some people do, is to replace the octive G string [.008] with a matching wound string.
This gives a fuller mid range sound.
You will have to open the nut up to make the larger string fit though.
Enjoy your new 12 string,
TMG.
