How many of you have an S300 or other model with the same shaped body?

Bought new in 1978 if I remember correctly
originally white
I think that might be the 3rd pickguard I've made for it
Carvin V22SD pickup with coil tap - yes I still have the original pickup ;)

For some reason, that red pickup looks great on that! (y)

OP, the S series guitars were very controversial when I worked for Guild, in fact, there were times we had overstock in the warehouse and I was told to blow them out at 50%+15 to dealers. It was a hard sale even at those bargain basement prices. All our salespeople were begging for a conventional solidbody they could sell, so we reissued the M-80 in a slightly different body shape.

When the S series guitars were new, dealers eagerly stocked them, but when they sat on the wall for six to twelve months or longer, they got turned off and many refused to stock them anymore.
It's so funny because I had $800 from commercial fishing burning a hole in my pocket in 1978 as a 17-year-old and played every solid body electric guitar I could find (in NY, lots) and bought an S-300 D. I obviously wish I still had it.

I really love mine. 700 bucks invested, and that is all. It has been a bucket list guitar for me ever since I saw one on the inside cover pic on Queens Jazz album. I play it gently.

Here's my 1979 S-300A, picked up in a pawn shop for $400 in 1986. While it plays and functions beautifully, it could use a replacement neck pickup surround, and a new volume knob.

I may have a neck pickup surround. I have to look through my parts. I will check and let you know.

If the only issue with the volume knob is the G shield insert then I would suggest buying a couple of the new knobs and taking the insert from one of those. They are a perfect fit and you have to look really close to tell the difference

In my experience, the S300A is the most difficult S300 to find.

It appears that I do have a neck pickup ring. Let me know or you are interested, maybe we can work something out. Also the guitarmechanic has original ones, but they are 80 bucks for the real thing. The spare that I have is after market.

Might as well add my S-60:
S60-2018-292.jpg

Bought new in 1978, it was given a new lease of life in 2018, with a refret, Graphtec Ratio tuners, Railhammer pickup and TBX tone control. I'd rather keep it as a player than a worn out museum piece, which is what it was in danger of becoming. It's the only guitar I've owned that long (though I did keep one Strat for almost 30 years).

At times I'm tempted to order a Balaguer with this body shape, but really I wish Guild would just reissue the S300.

Just took a look at the Balaguer website. Looks interesting. I think it quite appropriate that they call their version of the S-300 body shape "Enigma":cool:

Never heard of them. Looks like it was someone's custom design?

If you want an S300 why not buy a real one? There's a pretty steady stream of them on Reverb.

They are custom made, but it is one of the body shapes on their configurator. I certainly wouldn't swap my S-300 for one, but if I was looking for a custom guitar (and could justify the cost) it might be an option:unsure:

If they ever reissue it, I will buy one.
