Those are tone screws. Kind of like the rivets in a ride cymbal.

I try to make sense of how this came to be :
- It was a guitar w Telecaster-style bridge % pup
- Bass bridge was mounted further back to allow use of longer bass strings
- Second pickup was added to available space
- In order to make it 8-string bass - wooden train track was added to provide place for additional tuners - why 3 instead of 2 or 4 . . .
- Kalimba and another pup mounted
Would REALLY like to hear what music the owner creates - might be a VERY positive surprise

Man, those scalloped fretboards are nutz, GG! The one on the red one, above, looks very well done. I take it these folks don't use capos.
