This just came in yesterday, and every picture I've ever seen of them (including this one) do not do the guitar justice. This one's going to be a fun challenge to photograph because it simply must be represented in all its holographic glory.

It also happens to be a monster player, so that's a nice bonus. :)

Sweetness! Congrats on the mother of all flake finish guitars! And the review pile grows... ;)

Thanks!

I trying to prioritize the newer guitars because they generate more hits. The next one to be released will by the Starfire I for that reason.

I’m also trying to get a bunch in the final editing stage so I can have all the hard stuff done and have a large batch ready to go. I have probably six or more reviews that are about ready to release so that when I feel the need to get one out the door I’m not overwhelmed by the work involved. Some if the guitars have been in the pile for years like the X100 Bladerunner (which is nowhere near ready).

I have a fairly serious obsession/attention span problem where whatever came in last gets all the effort and I’m trying to work around that. :). The hardest part is the research (depending on the guitar) and documenting the electronics, though my perfectionist tendencies along with my need to attend to every detail make it all slower than it needs to be.

Being the writer and the photographer and the electronics tech and the sound engineer and the editor and the graphics designer and the webmaster and the server guy and the fact that life and a job (no complaints there!) get in the way makes for an erratic release schedule.

I’ve thought about doing mini reviews of some guitars but then I discover something about them that needs to be shared. I have too many damn guitars though so I need to get some outta here!

That concludes today’s rambling update.

If anyone can do it justice, THE GAD can! It has landed in the "Holy Land of Guild Explanations and Photo Reviews."

Heh. Thanks! Sully had me up early again and I wrote an entire section on what holoflake really means. :)

While I don't do all those things there are other responsibilities that get in the way for me. Except for the occasional "rabbit hole" (e.g. Artist Award headstock, G&L ASAT Deluxe control layout, etc), I mainly stick to "factoids and trivia" for the guitars and amps on my website. Just the little bit of work I do makes me keenly aware of the time and effort and skill you put into your reviews. I have much respect and admiration for the what you do!

Thanks! There's a lot to be said for the short and sweet approach, especially in these days where everyone's attention span is getting shorter by the day. I've thought about doing YouTube videos because I have no concept of time. LOL.

How about a quick Part 1 overview to be followed up by Part 2, 3 ,,, detailed reviews of different aspects. Maybe you append them together as the other parts are written.

In the lingo of my region, that is wicked pissah, GAD. I can only imagine what that looks like on stage with a couple of spotlights on it!

The first thing I do when I get a guitar is pull the strings, polish the frets, oil the fretboard, measure the neck and take some pics of the inside where applicable. I figured I'd try a quick and dirty pic to see if I could grab the colors this thing throws off. I'll take much better pictures later. This is a very high ISO and a very wide aperture along with a slow shutter speed because I have to set up the tripod and lights and background and all of that feels like work on a Saturday. :)

If I'm a stage director for a concert where someone is playing this guitar, I'm telling one of the follow spot operators, "Put your spot on that guitar and don't lose it."

That is cool.

It's a very cool finish and most pictures I've seen don't do it justice because they make it look like it's just sparkle. I've seen a lot of people call it the Bass Boat finish, but those are metal flake and this is so much more.

I just had to share because I thought this was funny. Normally, if I see a small detail that I want to examine on a guitar I grab the stupidly bright light I keep on my desk and take a look. Doing that on this guitar makes trying to see anything a million times worse do to the millions of reflections of all colors.
