It Was very old and sick of brain tumor , now is Dead. He He was a jackass, not fit for workwhy did the luthier paint over it? was there a specific reason? I am not trying to judge the man, I just find it interesting that someone would paint over a headstock logo.

Any final solution is welcome... Where i can buy overlay? I think its rare because is 1958, and seems paintedhave you considered buying a headstock overlay?
I dont know if exists a mask to paint headstockLimited experience here, but you may need to seal the grain? Then shoot Nitro lacquer, let dry for weeks, wet sand, reshoot, wait, sand, reshoot, etc. When it is right, have an artist paint the Guild Logo in Gold paint. You can alway dull it slightly to match the aging on the guitar, dulling compounds (fine white clay?) are easily available. Then bump the edges of the headstock here and there around the house like normal for a few chips, and voila, like it never happened. If there is much checking on your guitar, you can get the Nitro to craze with applications of canned refrigerant, as is commonly done by relic-ing experts.

No, I would not put a headstock or peghead overlay veneer on that guitar as that would make the headstock only thicker! There is no missing veneer on your guitar, the headstock on your guitar was just sanded! So you need to first mask the entire guitar with tape in order not to spray filler and black paint on other parts, apply filler to make the wood smooth again and close the pores, sand it and start spraying it with black nitro. Spraying nitro is a slow process, like Guildedagain already said, shoot Nitro lacquer, let dry for days (no need for weeks on a headstock), wet sand, reshoot, wait, sand, reshoot, etc. until you have the desired black result. Plenty of videos on youtube how to repair (spray) for instance broken Les Paul headstocks, same process here.Where i can buy overlay? I think its rare because is 1958, and seems painted

He was right if you talk about a complete refinish of a guitar where you built up level and level of NC and want it to be hard enough to polish it between spraying. But on a "small" headstock you can shorten that process and even slightly warm it (I'm just talking a few degrees, not more!) to speed up the process between spray jobs. The whole process still takes some weeks in total.Ralf; I said weeks because what what the repairman told me...
No, hence I posted the videos how to do them!Does anyone make vintage-style decals suitable for this particular Guild? I've never seen one.
But those would not fit that vintage of a guitar!I remember when we used to be able to buy those Guild rooftop slide decals online! Those were the days. Now, not so much.
No, of course not, Ralf. It's just that we had a source of them before they got shut down. Those coulda helped some people on lower end and more modern guitars for an easy fix. Since we've been seeing them lately I really liked the rooftop logos that Corona used on the D25 acoustics. Don't know if they were slip decals or silk screening, but the red outlined in white gave them a nice, finished look I think. I really like those Corona, CA D25's!!But those would not fit that vintage of a guitar!
