The Coastal one strikes again.
But seriously, C man, I have a bigsby on all of my archies, but I'm thinking about getting a starfour or starfive with a fixed bridge because I suspect that there might be more sustain with the fixed bridge and that I would therefore like the fixed bridge better for slide. How say ye, Coastie and others in the know?
A Starfire 4 for slide ? Interesting !
Can't say I've ever tried that on my SF.
I have this thing that slide-guitars should be "junkers". Maybe a "Junkers" would be good for "dive-bombing", whatever the hell that is in guitar parlance !
But I digress.
If you care to look at some of the guitars, (and really, they're junkers) that are renowned for monster slide-tone, you'll see an awful lot of floating bridges................
Various Supros and Harmonies, both vintage and re-issues spring to mind, just for starters.
Dano' U2s have the most rudimentary of bridges, and they're bitchin' slide guitars.
Somebody here with a lot more knowledge than I will no doubt offer worthwhile advise.
The thought of using a "good" guitar for slide just doesn't sit with me !
My advise; have yourself a barrel-load of fun and create something individual..........
Get a beat-up Dano' U1 / U2. Strip it, paint it, fit the p/u's of your choice that you think will give a nice slide-tone, or retain the originals. Maybe fit different/better pots, a proper bridge and decent tuners, and you've got yourself a Hattelectro !
