West,

I hope it wasn't this game:

I hope that Braves pitcher was able to come back after that. About 50 years ago, a pitcher named Herb Score got hit in the eye by a line drive, and he never did well after that.

Scratch,

Finally I know where the term 'battery assid' originated.
That's also how they got a very common name in the Middle East: Abdul Haf Assad.

Ya all,

We don't have humidity problems in Phoenix. It's a dry heave.

  Great shots of "W" there Darryl. Billy Wagner got hit by a line drive in the eye socket and required plastic surgery and reconstruction of the socket. He came back to throw 100 mph fastballs as a closer though. I always liked him....Astros, Mets or Phillies.

Neither did Tony Conigliaro. Although his at-bat was scored HBP, he never made it first base ... and his career was over with a few years.

I sit corrected Darryl, trying to remember, and after some research, it seems Wagner was actually hit behind the ear. And Darryl, it was one of your Diamondbacks that hit him...Stinnett back in '98.

I use acid...................I think it's muriatic to keep the aluminum wheels and dump bed shined up on the Mack. It's called MirrorX. Some products will turn the AL white but this brand restores the shine. Sometimes I dilute with equal parts water and usually after a winter of salted roads, full strength.

On the gardening scene, the vandalia onions are popping out of the ground. Yum yum.

No comprende. Kelly Stinnett was a catcher.

In '98, Wagner was pitching and Stinnett hit a line drive right back at him that hit Wagner in the side of the head.

Appalachian,

That's a new one on me. I guess muriatic acid could work on aluminum, but not chrome, right? Is the bed on your Mack aluminum? I'm guessing the acid might be diluted by the salt, and that's why the acid isn't corroding the aluminum. Maybe vinegar would also be good for dissolving tar, grease, and road scum.

West,

Doh! Now I get it. I thought if the ball hit behind the guy's ear, maybe he was hit by a ball thrown by the catcher. Kelly Stinnett was a powerhouse. I'll bet he could bench 400 pounds. So could I, but only in English currency.

Baseball is dangerous even for the fans. At every game there's somebody who takes a bat or ball in the chops. And people take infants. Maybe the parks should have screened in areas for people with infants. You could put a screen in front of those wheelchair areas and let infants and the handicapped sit there.

We have a newish, minor league park here used by the St Louis Cardinals for spring training and the Jupiter Hammerheads (FL Marlins Class A?) for their season's play. In the new style ... Orioles / Rockies / Indians ... brick, metal, many more charming but if you sit down front along the sidelines, ya need a spotter for the line drive foul balls ... it's that or wear a batter's helmet to the game .... whether you're in the lineup or not.

We've had field seats....first row a couple of times at Minutemade for Astros games. To be honest, it scared the crap out of me. Once we had the seats next to the Astros dugout....I hear ya John.

Yes, you don't want to be breathing it, and it turns masonry yellow for a week or more.

A more dangerous acid? Well, I remember sitting on a car battery once as a kid. Once. It's a crude but effective alternative to butt-reduction surgery.

That's what you call 'non toxic' in Arizona
