I'm glad I sold off some of my more expensive pieces before the current sales climate of crazy prices and subsequent taxation.

I bought this for $1500, very near mint, local. Sold it when the time was right apparently.

First of all, some of these older guitars are dogs, I don't care how tarted up, and it would scare me to ask this much for a guitar, and then be taxed, while the buyer is taxed. What are we, just mindless revenue?

This much.

Just say no and trade.

I think I'll just go back to perusing local offerings and doing straight across trades like the old days.

This is not a rant about taxation without representation which is tyranny, but just a common sense approach for the future of the hobby.

Let the trading begin ;[]

I sold it when they started shooting up in value, that was good enough for me. Nylon bridge saddles were not Gibson's finest moment.

I think I read that the 1099 stuff has been rescinded, at least for the time being. It definitely will complicate things, and drive sellers away from Reverb and eBay. I know when it's reinstated (assuming it is), I will stick to the forums to buy and sell, and I'm sure I'll have a lot of company.

I love trading. Some of my favorite guitars and amps have come to me that way.

As far as SGs: never had one I really liked. My first electric was a mid 60s SG Jr. Truly awful guitar. I see these fetching crazy prices and have to laugh. I couldn't wait to get rid of mine. Then had a borrowed 60s SG Special for years. That one I got along with pretty well. More recently, I used a 2005 SG Standard for years as a slide guitar. Even with a pickup change for the better, it never quite worked for me. Bought and sold it for 700 bucks several years ago. Had I waited to sell, I might be asking 1200.

It's a strange time for buying and selling. Very hard to sell things now, but prices are still through the roof.

About the time the Supernatural album came out I was working in a Target store and one day I was passing through the electronics department and Smooth came on the TV and I was standing there transfixed while all of those ladies were making their moves and a woman passing by stopped and said "it's the guitar isn't it". yep! Doesn't matter to me what Santana plays I just always love to hear him!
