I would much rather see the luthier/builder spending lots of time tap tuning the top and shaping braces to get best tone- things a machine can't do- and leave the cutting to a laser so that all of the joints were tight without any drudgery. It seems to me that letting people do what they do best and machines do the rest is why we are now in the golden age of luthiery...until the wood runs out.

Collings makes an exceptional guitar that doesn't come cheap. I wonder how automated they are vs hand-built processes?

Exactly. There are always the intangibles of design and construction that can't be programmed into a machine. :D

There is still human skill involved.

There is substantial investment in New Hartford.
Its most first floor is Guild.
The had to put special chambers to spray lacquer.
They not going anywhere, they have a home again.
I was up in New Hartford recently, having some custom work done on an Adamas II
and a repairs done repairs on Ovation Pacemaker & Ovation UKII.
I saw part of the Guild as you can see it from the Service area.
What I saw was luithiers hand finishing frets fret boards etc.
There where D-50 & D-55 being made.
I saw a finshed D-55.
These are some the best Guilds I have ever seen.
Think think Alfred Dronge era without the glue slop.
The fret work is hands down better then its ever been before.
No Orange peel in the finish.

I just can't wait for them start F512 production to start.

Pez, thanks for the report! Hey, I think it's time for me to contact them again and see if we can get an LTG tour going. I'll get crackin' on that.

Please do, pez! I spoke with Mr. Untermyer (Kaman GM) a few months ago via email about a factory tour, and he told me they weren't ready then. It's definitely time to ask again. Please let us know what you can arrange.

Yes! Thanks for asking Bing.
What 6 string models will be produced and where?
What 12 string models are being produced now, or in the near future?
Will Guild be making guitars out of alternate woods like Cherry etc?
Will Tacoma Brand Guitars still be built?

Thanks for your help.
It will be great to have some answers [and guitars] from Guild again.
