Hi all!
New LTG member here! I'm delighted to say that after many many months of searching for a Guild Starfire the right one finally popped up last week. It's labeled a Starfire III, but with the modifications done to it I'm gonna go ahead and call it a Starfire II 1/2. All I can say is that I'm extremely happy with this guitar! It plays and sounds fantastic and is definitely a keeper. My post here is mainly out of curiosity to see if any knowledgeable LTGers can help me figure out what might have happened with this guitar.
Pressed on the guitar is serial# 44024, but underneath it reads the serial# 21869. My initial research suggests the 44024 serial number dates to around '64 and the 21869 to around '62 (thought admittedly I may be off). The serial# in the control cavity of the guitar has been completely crossed out and despite my best efforts is truly unreadable. Further, the guitar features the earlier open book headstock shape as well as the later stairstep pickguard. The guitar came with the harp tailpiece, but the seller indicated that they suspect it had a Guildsby at one time.
Given that this is a 60 year old instrument I know that it's virtually impossible to tell what might have happened at the factory versus what a subsequent owner may have done to it. I'm just hoping to learn a little more about its history. Any thoughts?
Thank you!
