Outstanding, Tallyrand! Take a full picture spread of it and post a NGD (new guitar day) thread for us. Congrats!

Congratulations! That's a great first Guild. I'll second others' suggestion to look for an F30 as a second Guild. You should be aware that this guitar has come in various permutations over the years, with a mini-jumbo shape from the early '70s through the mid-'90s and a more traditional 000 or OM shape from the '50s through the early '70s and then again from the late '90s on. There are also various options in scale length and nut width, so it's kind of a tricky model to wrap your head around (I have a short-scale F30 from 1964, a full-scale F30 from 2007, and a GSR F30R from 2010 that is full scale with a wider nut (1.75" as opposed to 1.68"), as well as an F112 from 1977 that is essentially a 12-string F30 from the mini-jumbo era with a deeper body.

Guitars from the F4x series (other than the current jumbo F40 from Oxnard) aren't much smaller than dreadnoughts, but if you do most of your playing sitting down they will feel smaller due to to narrower waist. If you're standing up, they don't feel much different from a dreadnought.

Tally, I forgot to mention that the truss rod cover is accurate/correct for that model. I have no doubts that you're looking at the real thing from Tacoma. Should be a winner!
IF It's a Havens D40. If so it's the ONLY one with an ATB finish we've ever seen. That finish was never spec'd for that model but was common on the Bluegrass Jubilees.

It is a D-40 Richie Havens signature model, Al. The Havens was the only Sitka-topped D-40 available from Tacoma during this period. It may indeed be the only antique burst Havens; I don't know.

That's assuming the top's sitka which hasn't been confirmed, only had opinions rendered. I just think the odds of getting swapped TRC far outweigh the odds of a one-off finish.

The OP has expressed indifference to the question though so I wash my hands of it.

This Moderator is concerned about the discussion of what constitutes a "Richie Havens" model. How about you take it outside, smoke em' if you need 'em and chill until there are more sources of information?

Because the script “Richie Havens” is very small on the TRC on the Richie Havens model, can’t see enough to tell on this one. But I would think he would be playing his own model antique burst D40 here, maybe. At least he’s in possession of a burst D40.

Interesting that it doesn't have the double pickguard though. Maybe the second pickguard is still in the case?

IIRC the Havens Signature was shipped with one guard installed, and the other in the case. I wish @hansmoust would chime in here and clear things up.

It looks like this magazine cover is from 1997 - isn't that a few years before his signature model, whatever its specs, was introduced?

It's a not a 'burst D40, it's a D30 from '97, described in the interview. 6 years before the Havens Signature introduction in Corona in '03. (And in fact the D40 was on hiatus in'97, replaced by the DV6) ;)

I own a 1978 D312SB and it has the same dark edged SunBurst fading to that beautiful golden orange. It was many years ago but I seem to recall it being referred to as "Tobacco Sunburst" or is that what Gibson called their dark edged sun burst. Oh, I'm showing my age.......... that's it!!
