The guitar store made good on it. They must have called Fender and gotten an earful, or thougth about the way I left the store. The owner asked me when I walked in what did I want? I told him what do you mean and he said shape, sound, style, wood, etc? Basically ran down the list of things a person might want in a guitar. I told him, and he gave me a Taylor GA4. Not Guild forum guitar content, but an awsome guitar, that costs quite a bit more than the Guild I started with.

Ah, well there you go Wooglins... A disappointment from a Guild point of view, but probably a happy ending for you. Your GA4 will be sapele, I think, compared to rosewood on your DV-6. I'm sure you'll like it. Sound will be quite different from the DV.

Best wishes.

It is a cross between Mahogany and Rosewood (OVANGKOL). I am really happy with it. All the individual parts are top notch. Ebony everywhere, Nitro Top, etc. The sound is well Taylor (Like a piano in the form of a guitar). It fits a different niche in my Guitar collection. This is a very comfortable guitar to play.

I will have to keep my eye out for a classic Guild until Fender starts offering some American made Guilds that are afforadable (probably never).

A couple of small points:

1. Taylor doesn't use nitro in any of its guitars, probably due to environmental concerns. Taylor finishes are either varnish (lower end guitars) or UV catalyzed polyurthane/polyester.

2. The original DV6 (built in mid-late 1990s) has a mahogany back and sides, so all of the Tacoma built, and now Ensenada built DV6s deviate from the original design.

I did not know that about the Nitro. The finish is UV catalyzed poly. I just read about it, quite amazing. It is what creates the shifting and shimmering apperance when you move a Taylor around while looking at finish. They fill the pores in grain of the back and sides with a clear polymer that is hardened with UV light. This clear polymer allows the detail of the wood to show in filled grain. Other finished are just filled with a brown filler.
