Nope. Not to me.

However, the ones I've played do seem to offer a good deal for the buck.

There are some awfully nice sounding GADs out there. I'm not sure the label affects the sound quality that much. Mine was better than a number of other makes and models in the store, including a $1600 Martin. So I think the GADs represent a VERY nice sounding Chinese guitar, and, face it, the Chinese guitars coming over---Blueridge, et al---have gained wide respect for their sound.

Much better than Epiphone, Yamaha, Alvarez, etc., in that price range, in my view.

I agree with you on this.
Now do the same comparison to Taylor, Martin, Gibson and American made Guilds.
American made guitars will win that battle.
Perhaps GAD's fit somewhere in the middle of it all.

Well, GADs ARE real Guild guitars. They're sold as Guild by Guild; when you buy one, you buy a Guild. . . albeit one made out of America.

I agree, and I should try, the comparison between Guild and Martin and Gibson (I won't throw Taylor in there; not a fan of the airy-fairy sound). There are some nice Gibsons I've seen, the CJ-165, the advanced jumbo. I have not really checked out the American vs. American maker dimension. I wonder if I'd pick Martin over Guild, sound-wise. I frankly don't know which American brand I'd most prefer.

My price range included Korean, Japanese, Samoan, Indoneisan, Malaysian and Ethiopian makes. Had there been the Tacoma DVs, I think I'd have pretty quickly saved the bit extra and sprung for them. Just a sensible thing to do all around. Right now, with young kids, a cheap guitar is a sensible thing to stick with, too.

Guy fits right in .... he may be referring to the Highly SeaLassie; a popular model in the 1930s and coveted by the Italians.
