I'm new to this site so I hope I do this right. I wrote an ad which if I ever learn how to use EBAY I will use there,,but for now I wanted to get some feedback and possibly sell my Guild F212 here. I've learned from this site and others that my guitar is desired and want to see what kind of offers I get so maybe I wont have to learn EBAY :). Here's my ad: Guild Jumbo 12 string, F212 NT, made:Westerly, RI. Serial #198159. All original. Circa 1970's (late 70's I believe). The bridge is slightly raised along about 3/4 of the bridge. It is raised about the height of a thick pick. One end of the bridge is not raised at all. The body top has humidity cracks that are visible up close only,,to me they look to be in the finish only but I'm no Luthier. Remainder of body has normal surface belt marks and dings, nothing deep. Includes original Guild luxury hard case w/keys, owners manual and brochure. Instrument plays & looks great. A rare & desired Westerly. I welcome feedback/offers. I'm in central NY. Thanks
Update: 11/2/09 Price now posted: $1050
My pics link is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sightted/

Update: 11/17/09 I am now officially a "Seller" on eBay. So I am just giving everyone here a heads up that I will be listing my F212 on eBay probably in about 10 days (I have 24 auctions up now and need to sort that out first---books and stuff like that). Therefore my price here, ($1050), is flexible for now. Once my listing hits eBay I have to run it exclusively there and will be putting a link to it on here. Thanks again to everyone here with their help along the way.

Hello Ploiter,

The first bit of feedback you're likely to receive is, "Include some pictures". That will allow some of the knowledgeable folks hereabouts to determine how accurate your ad copy is, or even drum up a buyer here at LTG.

Edit:Grammer

ploiter, welcome to LTG and good luck on the sale of your F-212. You can get an explicit date for your axe (PM hansmoust, if you like). His book does not cover past 1977 (which this guitar is after).

I, too, strongly recommend lots of good-quality pictures, particularly to elaborate on the cracks and bridge lift you mentioned. Good disclosure is valuable in any advertisement, I believe.

I was on a pretty good site a few months ago and I believe my guitar is from 1979 based on the serial number.I just took over 40 pics and have to figure out how to post them here. Pics are on the way !

You're allowed to post pics, but LTG doesn't host the image files. You'll need to set up an account with a photo sharing site like Photobucket or Flickr or host them on your own web server. Once the images are on the photo sharing site or wherever, you paste a link to them using the tags, into your post here on LTG.

There is a tutorial around here some place that gives more detailed instructions, but I haven't been able to locate it.

Edit: more grammar and poor sentence structure

Here is the how-to link to post pics. Once you manage to get them from your camera onto someplace like Image Shack (which is what I use), getting the impage onto here is very easy.

Image Shack is free and easy to use. A dedicated 30 minutes first time around should produce results. Note that LTG allows you to Preview your post, so you can confirm pics are there.

Just be sure to hit Submit when you are ready to submit - or you lose all your hard earned typographical ceerections.

I found the Tom Foolery not only quite welcoming but also a vigilant display of intellect. Henceforth all communications on my behalf shall adhere to the strictest and most fluent rendition of the commonly accepted English language. Consider my prior barbarism the workings of a exuberant adolescent and rest assured our ongoing exchanges will be mutually stimulating. Once again I thank you for the antics of a brotherhood ritual and leave now with my dignity restored. (man i hope i didn't screw that up :? .

I really wanted to see what kind of offers were made and then make my decision whether to go to ebay with it. My only reference, as far as price, is what I've read on this site and from a little ebay research. Sorry that I can't give a direct answer to you question, but feel free to PM me and make an offer. Thanks.

Ploiter,

Not to stick my nose in where it's not wanted, but I'll point out that most folks name their selling price in good faith here and then transactions are carried out via PM or email. I don't see any real problem with fishing for a price like you are, but you'll sell this quicker if you price it fairly. Either someone will pony up or you'll have other offers to choose from.

Just about every transaction I've seen here has gone fairly for both parties. You shouldn't have a problem selling your F-212 here that way, from what I see. Nice axe.

Just my dos centavos.

Thanks for the advice. I probably should have asked the experts on this site from the beginning what they thought my guitar was worth,,so I had a better idea than I do now. My limited research puts me in an awkward position. I want to sell it at a fair price while not getting hurt on it at the same time. I'll be doing a bit more research but am open to suggestions from those in the know at the same time. Thank again for your help.

ploiter,

So, the "cracks" look to me like crazing in the finish. I didn't see anything that looked like a real wood crack, and that is good! The bridge lift probably indicates that the guitar has been a little dry over the years, and the crazing might be due to a bit too much heat or possibly cold-checking. Just guessing.

This is all pretty normal stuff. I'd say this guitar is in average to good condition. That's purely my take on it, ploiter.

Best wishes.
