Coastie has posted several pictures here of New Zealand in the past Cap. It is truly a beautiful place. There is a park close to where Gary lives that is particularly spectacular. Looks like quite a site and I'd love to visit there sometime.

Me too West; I'd like to see it...why does it have to be so darn far away?

At the risk of sounding stupid (not that hard for me), if the place is called New Zealand, does anyone know where Old Zealand is?

Just googled the old Zealand / (Danish) Zealand / (Dutch) Zeeland thing; I have it now.

The good news is that my ignorance won't keep the place from being extraordinary.

what a coincidence - i was surfing youtube for a nice shot of Robert Smith from the Cure playing his signature black JF30-12 live (found one but quality is bad) - but i ran across the guitar in this thread used by a member of his band - and it's a lefty!

Hi Coastie:

I understand that much of the background footage in the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed in NZ; is that true?

If so, it must be a place of spectacular beauty.

20c...is that hot or cold?

Regards

Capn, nice to hear from you.

Yes, LOTR was filmed largely in New Zealand.
The director, Peter Jackson is a Kiwi and recently remade King Kong.
Special effects by these clever, cutting-edge people...........

And, I'll betcha didn't know that the Shrek movies were directed by another Kiwi, Andrew Adamson !

Is 20C hot ?
That's equivalent to 68F.
If you lived in a part of Newsy-land where the mean Summer temperature is around 27C, or 82F you might think 20's a little chilly; on the other hand, if you lived where the mean is around 14C (57F), you'd think 20 was pretty darn tropical !

It feels just about right to me !

Here's a Kiwi you might find interesting; the all-time greatest do-it-yourselfer............

Rent the movie "The World's Fastest Indian".
You'll be blown away !

It's held by many that this bloke did it before the Wright Brothers.........

You've probably never heard of this bloke..........

Thank you Coastie for the interesting links. I'd send you link regarding people and culture in Florida but as ever other US-LTG poster already knows, the place is full of pretty wacky people...except me, Dr Izza Plumber, and a few others or course.

As a left-handed (former) golfer, I followed the career of Bob Charles and bought both his book and video...I didn't get much better although it wasn't Mr. Charles' fault hence the 'former'.

I've watched the LOTR trilogy several times; mostly for the scenery. Hard to imagine a place as diverse, beautfiful, and pristine. I guess we could ship you a few million Floridians...help you put and end to all of that; you know, parking lots, pizza shops, window-tinting businesses, tattoo parlors...maybe not...

Well Capn,

I'm thinking that the Floridians are already here !

The height of our tourist season here, and the town's full of blazingly white Nikes, appaling floral shirts, and teeth that are too good to be true !
Not to mention rent-a-hair geezers and old sheilas with mauve hair-do's !

I'm REAL worried about what the place'll look like when the Texans turn up !

I dunno; the Texans will have to go a long way to top what Florida has to offer.

There were two Broward County FL judges involved in the Anna Nicol "Busty" Smith matter that was recently semi-resolved here.

One judge was caught on camera blubbering like a pubescent teenager mourning the loss of his favorite 'hand-party' subject. The other judge was arrested last Sunday for smoking grass at a public park.

Considering how hard the whole thing apparently was on Judge #1, maybe Judge #2 can claim mitigating factors...

I could understand if NZ Customs just told touring Floridians that if they didn't take off their rugs, they'd have to stay on the plane...
