Has anyone here noted that the inlays referred to in the title were mass-produced and could be purchased in bulk back when these guitars were built?

I was buying production inlays back then (for banjo 5-string conversions) and routinely saw these as catalogue items from my source (a supplier in New York). Since I already had a Guild 12 with these inlays, I thought it would be fun to add these to my F-312 (blank ebony fretboard). Never got around to doing it, but I like fret markers, so it still seems like a good idea.

Man that is a beautiful ebony fingerboard! Not sure I'd futz with it. On the other hand, it would look nice. Someone put abalone block inlays in my DV52 ebony fingerboard and they did a really nice job.

"Shellex in Germany"

Thank you Hans! I see they are still in business and still producing these inlays. Glad to have this information (though I now suspect already had it, in your book (?).

Lookin' good Heath! I assume the abalone binding and purfling are also add-ons.

Thanks, someone did a nice job on this. They basically replaced the MOP dots with abalone blocks, so no inlay on the first fret.

My son is thrilled seeing as I gifted him this DV52 for his graduation from college.

Easy to buy them I'm sure...but the real talent (which I have none) is getting them inserted.

Still, gets ya thinkin'

I am interested in purchasing a set of the fingerboard and bridge wing inlays used on the F-612 model. I am also interested in purchasing the checkerboard purfling used on the top edge of the body and the top edge of the head plate on a F-612. Please feel free to let me know if any of you have these items to sell or if you know of a current source. Thanks!

The original manufacturer Shellex is still producing them in Germany.
