Yesterday, I bought an old beauty from forum member frosty and drove through some horrific weather to bring it back with me to the office and then home in the evening.

Last night, I put in some quality time with the guitar, cleaning it up, oiling the fretboard and polishing the frets, cleaning up the "Pat Pend" tuners, changing the strings to put on new EXP PB custom lights, and finally putting a quarter turn on the truss rod. I proceeded to play it for another hour or so before packing it in for the night.

Today I brought the guitar back into the office and three of my coworkers who all play extremely well were absolutely floored by this baby.

The sound and playability of the F-50R really suit me. It's a rich, lush sounding instrument. The perfect 6-string brother to my F512 which is, quite simply, my favorite guitar in the stable, hands down.

I'm staring at both of them, on stands, in my living room right now. I'm thinking I must be doing something right in my life. ;) Unfortunately, I broke my camera yesterday trying to take pictures inside the soundhole, so you guys will have to wait for a good picture until I replace it.

I want to express my thanks to frosty for such a pleasant transaction. LTG, if it weren't for you guys I wouldn't have ever thought about such a purchase... And, finally... Guild, if any of you are out there, thanks for building such a magnificent instrument.

Guild was pretty sloppy with the glue, eh?:

Congrats on finding a guitar that you really love, Chazmo :D .
That's a wonderful experience.

You sure you weren't trying to take a picture of yourself when the camera broke? :p

Chaz and Frosty,

Always good to see successful transactions between members. Chazzy, sounds like you've got a lifelong keeper, and Frosty, I know you hated to see her go. Great for both of you.

Does anyone know if the tuner buttons on these Grover "Pat Pend" tuners were originally gold plate? The tuner bodies and the posts are still gold-colored, but the buttons aren't. They are fairly pitted. I suspect they were once gold, but I can't find any spots of gold that would point me that way.. Looking at them now, they could've been chrome.

Oh, and thanks, West!!

They most likely were gold tuner buttons. Might want to think of replacing them, Don can get Grovers for a great price. I think the set I bought was 45 bucks or so.

It was particularly great for me since I got to meet frosty and didn't have to wait for the brown truck and worry about the condition of the axe! Instant gratification. :)

Hey, FNG, thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't thought about that, but these tuners could stand to be reconditioned (if that's even possible). I contacted DKL to ask if he's got any to use as replacements.

Some pix added to the first post. Still no "twin" pictures yet of the F-50R with the F512, but sometime this week, I think.

Thanks, dayuhan!

I definitely have to get some pictures of the two of them together for you guys. Remarkable similarity, really, given 37 years in between them. You'd almost think we're talking about Martins here! :)

There was a fellow that joined us a few weeks ago who is the original owner of one of the first F-50R models. His is unbelievably mint condition, by the way, with really unique arched rosewood... But, anyway, he was so enamored of this axe, even after 40+ years, that I decided I wanted one. Then frosty put his up.

Serendipity. Life is good. ;)

Congratulations on your F-50.

I'm glad my posts motivated you to get your own.

Mine is right here next to me and whereas I can only play it for a few minutes and my chops are all but gone it still gives me great pleasure to strum open cords and listen to it sing.

Beautiful Chazmo.

Can you play them both at once???

Speaking of playing them both at once, check out this video! This guy used to frequent the open-mics here and I rmember I once had the distinct displeasure of having to follow him!
Not only 2 guitars at once (Not Guilds, I'm afraid), but a tamboprine as well! Sigh... I hate naturals!
