Mole, the pictures of yours are amazing, like it just came out of the box. Doesn't look battle worn to me! I'm gonna have to git me one!

You're right - she DOES look like brand new. lol She's only got two very small dings in her. I did take very good care of her and, like I mentioned, she was in her case under the bed for 22 years. lol So six years on the road and 22 semi retired. But she's out and playing now. I do want to put one of those JLD bridge re-enforcements in her though because she's got an ever so slight bow to the top and I want to nip it in the bud now.

My 1985 arch-back, D25 Sunburst, is a bar-gig tone monster. But she ain't no "pretty face" .
Dents, scars, scratchs, buckle rash, cappo damage, badly repaired top cracks, cigarette burns, even pink bondo has been roughly smeared into holes beat into the back of the headstock?? I can't understand how anyone could abuse a guitar so badly, without tieing it to the back of a pick-up truck and dragging it down a gravel road!
But, heres the strange part, a easy playing stright neck, tight braces, good orginal tuners, and a loud, bluesy tone that is "room-filling awesome"! She was a e.bay give-away risk that really paid off!
Its a great guitar that I don't have to worry about someone spilling beer on. The old girl's a real testimony to Guilds build quality.
Dale.

Count me in for the D25 site fellers. Unfortunately, Gus is not as pristine as I hoped when I got him, but heck...still a D25! I like to think he's just a bit weathered for his age.

How/why did I name him Gus? http://youtube.com/watch?v=3KecAZoW0Uc

Hey, how come I've never gotten to see that movie - I've gotta find out if it is on DVD now

Lonesome Dove is a great flick, Jerry. It's on DVD...

Hope it was released in the UK and I can find one in the UK (can't use US are 1 ones as we are on a different zone). I like the later Westerns - they have gone for historical accuracy in the clothing and everything. The 1950s Western movies were all wearing clothes more like 1930s Western gear - by the 1980s the appearance looks like the old genuine photos. Think Gus is using a Remington. Certainly isn't a Colt or Smith & Wesson pistol. Holster looks right too - the 'fast draw' was a Hollywood invention.

I have a genuine old book at home - 40 years on the trail (or was it 50 - have to go find it) by John Y Nelson published in 1889. Facinating.

Just gave my '92 D25 away yesterday to a good friend of mine's daughter. She's 25, and I think she will enjoy it. I've had issues with the binding coming loose since owning it, but the bigger problem is that it needs a neck re-set. She should be ok (as really, I would be too) since she plays pretty high up on the board most of the time. Always sounded sweet, but I have too many kids to maintain a problem child.

So, with that, I guess I'm outta the club.

Gus came home tonight after surgery with Ross the Magic Luthier. Under 200.00 to get him up to speed. Now 750.00 invested Wow!!! He now plays like my best friend...

The old after market pickup has lots of hum in it, so I hooked up a cheap Seymor Duncan soundhole pickup to the amp and played away. Absolutely unreal what a fret job, shaved bridge and new strings can do... Good grief how that ole arched back projects.

Polished him up after drooling all over him... Think Gus will go to the next gig with me. Happy camper again...

Chazmo: Really?! So, then, on originally-finished guitars, is it colored lacquer or something that obscures the whiteness? I.e., why don't they look white like Marcellis' picture on her post-refinished D-25??

Hi. I had the logo custom-inlaid by the Saigonese luthier who restored my 1972 D-25.

The reason I did that was that he couldn't get a decal. They can do fabulous inlay with Abalone here anyway. But they can't do decals here.

Then I got carried away and said,
while you're at it, go ahead and put the G-shield on it too.

So it's the only D-25 in the world with an Abalone "Guild" and a G-Shield inlaid on the head stock.

But what the **ll. She deserved it. I bought that guitar in 1973. She's never going on the market for sale.

BTW, I'm a "he". The woman in the photo with my D-25 is not marcellis.

Sorry for calling you a "she," Marcellis. I assumed that was you in the picture. I think the G-shield looks great.
