We had tossed around the idea of a D-25 fan page in the thread where I was looking for my D-25. Well, I ended up getting TWO D-25s and I couldn't be happier. So let's move on this! I talked to Don (dklsplace) about it first to make sure I wasn't stepping on any toes here. He was very supportive of the idea!

So where do we move from here? I'm not sure what I want (or what YOU want).

Here are the facts so far:
1) I can host the site
2) I've got web programming experience, but am NOT good at DESIGN. I can program any back end mumbo jumbo, but when it comes to laying out a website i am just PLAIN JANE!!

What I DON'T want is another FORUM. I think LTG is plenty for Guild discussion. If there are important threads, perhaps they could be linked off the D-25 site.

So any thoughts or suggestions? Volunteers for information, pictures of their D-25s? Comments?

James; I see that you own a DV-52 also... How does it compare to your 25's? GAS has reared it's pretty lil' head and I'd love to hear how you view/hear each.

Still settling in with the DV-52. First impression was that it was the most amazing thing i've ever laid my ears on! Then I recently changed the strings from JP .012 (phospher bronze) to d'addario .011s (also phospher bronze) and i'm not any more excited than i am with my D-25s. Not to say that I'm not thrilled with the D-25s. . .just that the DV-52 was in a league of its own when i got it. I'm going to put JP .012s back on it AND put the same strings on my '77 D-25 and see how they sound. I'll give a detailed review then. . .

But D-25s. . .man they're COOL!!

Mingus, I'm all for the D-25 fan site. Ive got a '78 CH,a nd I'm on the hunt for someting pre-73.
Here are some quick ideas for sections of the site...I'll continue to think about it though, guaranteed.

A "GALLERY" with lots of pics is a must show showcase the differences in year models, finish examples, etc...
Along with the gallery could be any interesting story behind the guitar.

I also think you just hit on a great idea with the previous question in this thread. "STRINGS".
What do people use, what effects on tone, playability, etc.

Frets, what kind do people use when refretting? "REPAIR"

Replacement tuners? New nuts, saddles? bridge pin upgrades? "UPGRADES" or "MODS"

Maybe a "TRADING POST" for original hardware, cases, case candy, old ads, etc.

Just some ideas, but I'm in. I've got very very basic html skills, but i'm willing to help!

I'm in. I bought my '76 D-25ch new and it has a lot of good memories attached to it.

I've done a few mods to it over the years, but it's still the same old cool guitar it's always been.

Can I join the club??? :D

Another +1 on the fanclub here. :) I'm the original owner of a '78 D25CH - here's a couple of pics for the gallery - taken last fall. :) The second one shows her serial number and the Schallers I put on when she was only a week old.

Great suggestions!

The only one i'm shying away from is the trading post. That would imply posting ability. . .not sure I want a messageboard / forum.

Perhaps one could get around that by linking the classified section on the good ol' LTG forum? I'd really like to tie everything I can back to this forum. I mean. . .it would really be a two way door. You've got two types of people coming to it: those who came from LTG and those who have D-25s and found us on the internet. The later group of people could then be pointed back to LTG as a GREAT resource and forum. Don's created something awesome here. . .and I don't want to detract from that!

Makes Perfect sense to me! I'll post some pics as soon as I can.

Mole2 - congratulations on such a beautiful D-25, so well-preserved. It looks like mine did in 1973 when I bought it.
Mine was the same color. But it had the Hog top.

Don't ever sell it. Make them take it out of your cold, dead
fingers when you pass on.

Here's my 1972 before & after it's 2006 restoration.

beforeandafter.JPG

I gave it to my son in 2003 after a neck reset.
I restored it for him in 2006. The luthier could not get the color exactly right. So I opted for burst.

(Note the improvised G-Shield. I don't care. I thought the guitar deserved it. She was my red-necked baby for 30 years. I performed with her in bars, at weddings and in coffee houses. I even let her sleep in my bed sometimes.)

The D-25 was the first great guitar I've ever owned. And I've only owned two. The other is an F-65ce.

Marcellis, she's a beauty. There's a lot of mojo there. Like you, mine went with me playing wine and cheese parlors, bars, weddings and partys in my youth. She spent a lot of time on the road with me. Then I put her down for 22 years and awakened her almost two years ago. Like you said, they're going to have to pry her from my cold, dead hands. lol

Hey, Marcellis... From the pictures, it looks like you lost the soundhole rosette or changed it? Maybe I'm just not seeing it right.

The burst looks nice (IMO), but what am I seeing at the rosette.

These D-25s are awesome. Mole, the pictures of yours are amazing, like it just came out of the box. Doesn't look battle worn to me! I'm gonna have to git me one!

I know on MY D-25ch I realized that the soundhole inlay is actually WHITE! At first I thought it was a cheap black sticker because of the way the lacquer shrunk around it. . .but it's actually white!

Really?! So, then, on originally-finished guitars, is it colored lacquer or something that obscures the whiteness? I.e., why don't they look white like Marcellis' picture on her post-refinished D-25??

Yep!! I thought mine was a friggin DECAL at first. . .but the "cherry" stain on the top goes right over the inlay and all you see is the black rings. If all of that is stripped off you see white inlays with black rings on them!

Count me in for the D25 site fellers. Unfortunately, Gus is not as pristine as I hoped when I got him, but heck...still a D25! I like to think he's just a bit weathered for his age.

How/why did I name him Gus? http://youtube.com/watch?v=3KecAZoW0Uc

My '77 D-25 ain't in pristine shape either (I hate you mole2!!) but i love her just the same!
