Capo placement is a big factor...with a strong spring capo like a Kyser...which does weaken with age and use...placing it right on the fret, rather than behind, greatly reduces string stretch/pitch changes...especially helpful with 12 strings as you only need to touch the strings to the frets and most of the capos have enough give in the pad to touch both strings in the pair to the fret when placed that way.

Hey, just saw this from Thalia capos... If you're looking for a really cool gift for someone, I really like this personalized capo. Of course, Thalia's got all kinds of neat shtuff, but this is at least guitar related:

An observation of Thalia capos, and I'm not knocking them at all. Mrs. West bought me one several years ago, and I've used it many times. To my ear, and I think it's the material and the design, they give the guitar kind of a metallic tone. It's not an unpleasant tone, just different. Has anyone else noticed it?

I think it's that fairly heavy gauge metal frame and arm that's hollowed out and that hard synthetic insert that does it. I know of no other capo with a similar design.

Delmar Products has added capo maker Thalia Brands to its portfolio, which also includes D’Andrea USA, Snarling Dogs and Ace Vintage Reissue Straps. Effective immediately, Delmar Products has purchased the assets of Thalia Brands and has assumed stewardship of the full range of Thalia-branded products.

“We have long admired the beautiful, fretted instrument capos, straps, slides and other guitar accessories and lifestyle products that Chris Bradley and his team designed and produced,” said John J. DiMugno Jr., president of Delmar Products. “We believe the addition of Thalia Brands to our portfolio dovetails perfectly with our current distributed, custom and OEM products.”

While co-founders Chris and Thalia Bradley will no longer be associated with the brand, Delmar plans to continue operations at the Pacheco, California, facility staffed by many of the same production, marketing and support team previously employed by Thalia Brands.

Shubb. The end. No need for fancy when all I'm tryna to do is play.... (y)(y)

I agree, but this one. No, this one. Mine say Planet Waves, though, because I bought them before they were cool. Or something.

At some point I bought them all. I had probably 15 capos and I decided which ones I liked the best and gave the rest away. I think capos are one of those "you're mileage may vary" kind of accessories because some of the ones people rave about the most did nothing for me. The Shubb was in my top three, though. :) I still have one somewhere.

Interesting news about Thalia, Jane. Well I hope they continue with their neat accessories (I have many -- rings, flasks, belt buckles, TRCs -- all great) going forward under new ownership.

Just as a disclaimer, folks, all I've ever used recently are Shubbs, and I like them, but I've got a few Thalias capos waiting in the background to try some day. They are quite beautiful.

And I will say this, hoping to not step on any toes. The Collings folks swear by Elliott capos.........if you've got a Collings, you have to have an Elliott, like for about $150. Mrs. West bought me an Elliott for my birthday last year, and I'll be honest. To me, they are no better than any other capo. Aside from obvious build quality, and they are made in a small shop here in Texas, they don't clamp strings any better, or sound superior to any other capo. At $150, I really wish I could brag on the Elliott, but I can't. They're good capos, but $150 worth?

That kind of endorsement by a high end brand with a following brand is marketing gold for a smaller company.

It's not Collings that endorses them though GAD, or at least I've never read/heard a Collings' endorsement, it just the Collings owners who are so high on Elliott. When I said "Collings folks", I was referring to Collings owners. Sorry for the confusion. 😊

Endorsement was a bad word for me to use. I totally get your point but I haven’t had enough coffee to form a better response to my original flawed statement. Maybe group-think of a fan-base. :)

I finally bit the bullet and paid up for an Elliott, push button, non stirup but just a screw tensioner variety. I find it worth every penny. Best capo ever. I would buy another as a replacement in a second.
