there is also a GSR M-85 Bluesbird bass. is it *full* hollow, not semi-hollow or semi-solid/chambered...and it is skinnier than the 60s chambered M-85, but fatter than the 70s solid M-85.

therefore, it is not a "re-issue" because it was never made like that before. but it is amazing, and Oxnard should definetly fire up the jig that made these and run it around the clock. imo

i would think also if they made the bass they can make the guitar

I'm not too excited about a reissue of the fully solid Bluesbirds from the late 70's. A heavily chambered guitar with a spruce top would be cool. Maybe a later Bluesbird with an option spruce top. Of course that means the price of original chambered Bluesbirds would go through the roof...

While some may assume that I would say it may drive vintage prices down. Before Guild released the NS and AP Aristocrat's the vintage version was selling for 4-5K. Since then I commonly see them available for the mid 3's or less, which is a huge drop.

To veer, my sense is that the price of vintage Starfire basses has remained steady or crept up since the NS Starfire bass was introduced. Interesting that a blanket generalization doesn't really apply across the NS line and its vintage brethren.

As long as they don't use the wrongly aligned jig which NH used to make the GSR M-75...Otherwise I loved the idea of the GSR M-75.

Having briefly owned one, I have to say that the reissue M-75 was a major, major disapointment. The misalignment was appalling and obvious, and it sounded just awful, unless you were playing through the neck pup.

I really wanted to love that guitar, but it would have taken a lot of work to make it right. Honestly, that was a guitar that should have met the bandsaw.

The whole run, or the particular one you played?
The whole run was fubarred, the jig was set up wrong. Don't get me wrong, it played great, it was just between the weak lead pup (sounded just woeful in that guitar) and the tailpiece needed to come over so far that I'm not sure the holes would be covered...
If you looked on the Fender/Guild website, you could see how off the alignment was, even with the guitar being slanted to hide as much as possible.
If it sounded great, or if it was perfectly aligned, I probably would have kept it, but between getting the pup rewound AND having to redial and repair the.tailpiece positioning, it just never would have been right. The pups were jammed all the way to the side of the pup cavity too. :-(

I suspect you'd like my Nightbird…it has a DiMarzio Dual Sound, installed by the original owner, in the bridge position. Which I use mostly in split-coil mode, combined with the neck p'up for a wide-spectrum rhythm sound. ;)

I hate to say this.....but the folks over at the SPG Factory in Korea with their CNC machines and specs/reverse engineered from a nice vintage example would probably get it right. The key would be the HB-1's. If they got the new HB-1's as close as they got the Franz pu's they'ed have something for sure.

We might just find that out!

Ahh. I didn't see one on his site.

That's because my site is woefully outdated. I have almost double what is posted. I really need to work on it but I seem to have mis-placed all the info required to access and modify it. :acne:

It sounds like you will need to either create a new site, or pay someone to hack into your site and give you your login information. :highly_amused:

In regard to the price of Guild vintage guitar $ impacted by the NS line...it looks to me that the majority of the models, especially Starfires, have increased in value and the NS models on the used market loose significant value (used NS guitars are a bargain). Aristocrats have come down from the nosebleed $ levels to more reasonable levels. Interestingly many of the DeArmonds seem to be creaping up and the DeA Starfire Special and T400 prices are still very strong. (I now wish I didn't sell my DeA T400's cause I could have slapped a pair of reissued Frans pup on one of them!)
The wild card are the Thunderbird $. They hit high $ and seem to have backed off a bit. Vintage solid body M75's are strong and have crept up.

One indicator that I watch is Guitar Center used listing. Over time the asking prices for Guild have gone up.

IMO the reissues have had a positive impact on the Guild price market.

Well, if you send me your undocumented Guilds, I'll happily photograph them, post the pics to your site, and <ahem> promptly ship them back to you. :playful:

Except that they're now more expensive for us. Uggh!

Speaking of Dearmonds, matsickma, you have to post that pic of your Franz-equipped Dearmond Starfire again some time. It haunted me for a while after you first posted it.

Yea...that is the only archtop DeArmond I held on to. (Have kept all the Thunderbird shaped models except the basses.) I'm actually planning on pulling the vintage Franz's from the DeArmonf Starfire Special so I can install them on a blond SF3 P90. I will replace them with a pair of reissue Franz's. Not sure I'll have time to post anything for a week as I'll be traveling next week and have to get the front grill and bumper of my truck reassembled so I can drive to the airport! A small tree ran in front of my son this winter. LoL.
