Wow, I had no idea. This has got to be the premier manufacturer of fine pianos. There is one for sale here:

On Craig's list -- come on! Or, am I missing something. I just offered a 5 year old Maytag Bravos clothes washer on Craig's list, and within one hour I received three scammer offers. Ugh.

Don't know about these pianos, but as a general rule thumb, you can't give organs, pianos or pool tables away. It makes no difference, if they are uprights, baby grands or grand piano's. No one wants them. We just cleaned my mothers house. She had an organ and a piano. They were in the parlor as she said, not in the cellar type. We tried to give them away for over a year...no luck. Finally we got someone to take the organ for free and we had to pay someone to take the piano.

I come from a line of piano players on my mothers side. I had to take lessons for 3 years, only to find out later I was an electrician.

I really like the way a well played piano sounds. But I can't play them and they are hard to install in the house, and move if you need new flooring. That's why a nice keyboard and some speakers for it is so much simpler.

How old's the carpet under that piano? :)

No carpet - living room has oak parquet - then two large rugs & a cowhide.

Here is old panorama pic - naturally baby grand is hiding in the dark spot 😂

I used to work at a retirement home when I was in highschool, and I would take my lunch in the atrium. Nobody went there, and it was a quiet and beautiful example of 1921 architecture. There was a Steinway concert grand piano that sat and gathered dust. One Saturday, I got off the elevator, and to me horror, there was a sixtish man in a suit behind the piano. Kitchen staff were not allowed to be anywhere other than the kitchen. Anyway, the man was visiting his elderly mother, and he told me that he always took time after seeing her to visit the piano too.
No idea what the vintage of the piano was, but it sounded like a choir of angels. I'm not a piano guy, but wow, I wish I was.

Bechstein makes amazing pianos also. Bosendorfer is since 2008, a wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha Corporation. Bösendorfer is unusual in that it produces 97- and 92-key models in addition to instruments with standard 88-key keyboards. There's something about a huge, well-crafted piano that just makes me happy.

A piano has about 1000 moving parts besides over 200 strings - huge tension - plus other stuff - much more complex than any guitar.

And when a perfect - or even good - piano and skillfull musician meet . . . 😍 🎼

One of my cousins is a concert pianist - degrees from Julliard, Van Cliburn semifinalist, gigs with orchestras, etc. He told me that Steinway will typically make several pianos available in advance of a major concert to allow the player to select the piano with the touch, timbre and tone best suited to the player and the piece. Steinway then delivers and sets up the piano at the hall.

I heard a similar story about several venues in the 60's and 70's as well. It depended upon the stature of the artist and sometimes it sounded like a local dealer was letting the performer and venue choose from what was in stock to be "rented" (rather than a corporate policy. Maybe it was coordinated through a local dealer?) But if you were a famous enough pianist you had a lot of input into which instrument joined you on stage.

I first heard about Bösendorfer because some European performers allegedly were not pleased when the venue offered them Steinways and the performers were vocal in their preferences for a Bösendorfer.

I had a Fender Rhodes at one time. Mark II Stage 73 as I recall. One of those things I should have kept. Sold it too cheap I'm sure. It was a tank though...and I don't play piano...but still...

...which was fortunate for me at age 5 since my folks picked up an old upright that a neighbor was giving away. Later they picked up a baby grand. Piano's been my main instrument for 60+ years. Had lessons for a year or two, but I mainly play by ear. When I hooked up with Mrs. Cougar, she had this very nice Kawai. It is actually an awesome piano. We had it moved from Salt Lake to North Idaho. The major remodel is nearing completion and I can't wait to get that out of storage and into its new home....

Note: That was my only guitar at the time of that photo. Ha!
