I've been making homebrew since I was first introduced in Boulder in 1988. Mostly I brew British ales, using recipes based on 19th century brewing records.

Not me. I spent some of my formative years working in a microbiology lab and the whole cleaning thing, without the resources of the State of New York behind me has no interest. Besides I can walk to two breweries :)

Me neither. I live in "Beer City, USA," there is a brewery on every corner.

Yep. Though I only use the mix that comes in a can and play around with the recipe a bit.
It gets pretty good results and the price can’t be beat.;)

Mrs mushroom however is way deep into cider making and has produced some glorious batches.

I've done it once or twice, but not in at least 20 years. Good results, may try it again, but don't have any of the fermenting equipment any more. Made Mead once, a long time ago, it was pretty good, too, not as sweet as you'd imagine using honey. I think the recipe was in one of the Euell Gibbons books.

I've been brewing for many years, must be over thirty! Started with the kits, but quickly moved on to full hop and grain brewing, initially with recipes from a book, but soon after started coming up with my own recipes. Mainly traditional style British Bitters or Dark Ales, or occasionally a Stout. I've tended to use the traditional English Hop varieties, but I am starting to acquire a taste for some of the American style IPAs, so might try experimenting with some of the more citrusy types:unsure:

Quotation I found in the front of an old book on homebrewing, Home Brewed Beers and stouts by C.J.J. Berry (Cyril Berry is very much considered as The Godfather of British Homebrewing and winemaking,) originally published in 1963.

"The process of brewing ought to form a part of the domestic economy of every family ..... the greater part of the population of this great and free country are doomed to destroy their health by the consumption of the intoxicating stupefactive compositions of the porter quacks and beer doctors, which are daily passing into their stomachs in the form of pothouse sloops or wash, under misnomers of porter, ale, intermediate beer or that nondescript and indefinable compound, London small or table beer." - William Cobbett.

This quote dates back to 1840:cool:

That's cool! I keep going through Ron Pattinson's books, learning more every time I open one. My recipes are on Brewer's Friend; under my name hoosier buddy. I just brewed a SMaSH beer in tribute to the folks at Three Floyds.
