You are still higher on the totem pole than a bass player :)

Dunno about that !

The view from the totem pole was pretty damn' spectacular for John Entwistle and Jack Bruce !

To which I would add Jack Casady but I will note that he is the only one with a Guild connection. Perhaps I should have specified the LTG Totem Pole :)

Did Jack Casady do much of his bass-ing on a Guild ? Not someone that I've taken a lot of notice of.

Only other connection I can think of would be Steve Boone.

Can anybody else name names ?

Hi, Skippy. Welcome. I don't post too often, but enjoy following the posts and learning from them. Seems like Guild people are the nicest people :D

Enjoy your new guitar. I wouldn't worry about where the guitar was made. If it works for you, it's a great guitar.

Life's too short. Enjoy the guitar.

Orso,

Pleased to make your acquaintance. Wish I could remember her name.

Axactly. In general, one place MIGHT make better guitars than another place does. But you have to judge each one by its own merit. So I think some Corona and GAD owners have made some of the best buys on the planet.

I still have a 'used' Corona D25. Certainly not the most polular series on this forum and I confess, I may not play it as much as some of the others, but I swear it still outplays most other competitors in its price range... And I think she's downright purdy...

I have no doubt. There are so many versions of D25's, but I've liked all of the ones I've played. I've played only a couple of Martin D18s, but I liked the D25s better (even though Martin is one of my favorites).

BTW, I've played only about three or four J200s, and they made me laugh.

All of this is subjective, of course. Each of us is different. Especially Jeff. (I'm referring only to his pro photography, of course.)

Jack Casady and Phil "Grateful Dead" Lesh are probably the best known of the Guild Starfire Bass players. By the early '70's they had switched to Alembic basses but their highly modified Starfires were in may ways the prototypes for the Alembics. The desire for a similar sound is behind the continued popularity of vintage Starfires with the Hagstrom bi-sonic pickup. The alternative to that PU would be the Dark Star which is used to replace PUs on late 70's Starfires or any of the more recent clones.

In addition to Steve Boone, I believe the bassist for the Turtles was an early Starfire adopter.

I've heard that Casady and Lesh got two of the first 5 Starfires made and that Casady would call Guild execs at home in the middle of the night but I can't cite a source and Hans' book is not at hand.

Hi Skippy - from Mexico but only briefly unfortunately!

Gary you old Perv, leave Joanna alone and stick to the woolies. Keep bumping into Ozzies here in Mexico.

They're probably there for the cheap drugs and promiscuous Llamas !

Have a helluva good time.

Wow - thanks for the welcome!

I sure hope I didn't imply that I'm at all dissatisfied w/ my GAD. No matter what name is on the headstock, this is one heckuva guitar! My boss has an american-made Guild he's been toting around for years now and playing my GAD had him GASin'!

I love my gitfiddle.

Someone mentioned that people buying coronas & GADs are getting some of the best guitar buys on the planet. How 'bout used ones? I got mine used from a MusicGoRound and paid less than $500 for the guitar (w/ the original case). The guitar looks like someone bought it, tried to play it a couple of times, put it back in the case and left the case in the closet from that point forward. I can't find *anything* at all wrong w/ it - aside from a few scratches on the pickguard.

Far as I can see, I definitely did well.

But regardless of whether it's new/used, it's a great guitar. Anyways - thanks for the Warm Welcome. I'm thinking I'm gooing to like it here.
