And worth evey penny of the BIN price!!!

I totally agree. But, with other DV52's going for $850 or less I seriously doubt this auction's reserve will be met since it must be set at around $1 K. Again, that's totally worth it though it's not in line with where the market has gone so far.

Don't get me wrong, I overpaid for my D15 and probably also for the JF30-12. But, I'm more than happy with both purchases because these guitars are completely undervalued even with what I paid for them, and they were both from very reputable dealers.

Ebay, Craigslist, etc. have a way of lowering not only what Guilds fetch, but also a lot of other gear that used to be much tougher to find before the internets & savvy sites like these. I just think it's harder now from a selling perspective, but it's a great situation for buyers... although you still have to be very careful.

I just took a look at that posting and the link. The GV-52 - is that a jumbo, or smaller, like the F-40, or F-30 size?

Hi,

Haven't been on for a while, but I got my DV-52 for $US523, and shipping was an additional $US70. This was last spring (2007). It was probably priced somewhat lower due to its only having a herringbone rosette, instead of the abalone one that the later ones do. I really, really like the sound I am getting from it.

That's a helluva price. And I'm not one bit surprised at the sound. Mine just keeps sounding better, to me, more like coming home.

Hi,

Serial number on mine is EK101037. It is satin finished, and it really, to me, embodies the sound of a dreadnought: rich, deep, and powerful, without the boominess that you would think are part of a "big guitar's" sound. I wasn't sure about the satin finish when I got it, but it sort of grows on you. I would have still preferred a high gloss finish, but I no longer mind the satin finish. Rosewood back and sides are really dark, and very straight grained. I don't know about the gold colored tuners, but they probably do fit in better with the rest of guitar's colours than chrome tuners would.

There are a few folks here with the natural finish and they say it's not just a lack of of high gloss. It's actually more like a hand rubbed finish, very precise, well, natural.

'Babe' is an HR finish and IMO gorgeous. Lack of laquer tends to make her louder than 'Gipper'; also a D4, that does not amplify or sustain as well...

Another DV-52 popped up on Ebay with a $1099 BIN. I can't imagine either of these selling, but I hope I'm wrong!

Anyboby seen the D-60 on eBay? :| It's #2 of the series but not in the best of shape. Makes me appreciate how I have cared for mine. I like pristine in all things...the dictionary calls it anal retentive, WD-40 and Armor all are my staples... and my wife calls me Felix Unger...but my Guilma is a lot prettier...! :)

Graham,

Your babies are pretty darn cool, too. 8) I wish when I was young and bought some of my earlier Guilds I would have known more about Guild as far as appreciation beyond the obvious. Geez, I never thought I would live to see 2000. I thought I was a cool rock n roller but I didn't know jack. Trading up for other Guilds (nothing else, of course) was great but I sure wish I could go back (DON'T WE ALL). I especially loved my 76 D-25 C but, when I was young I didn't know any better than the present like we all do.

Very rewarding is my 13 year-old who has a real knack for music, especially guitar, and is attached to my D-55 and lives and breathes Guild (without prejudice, of course). I have let him play the D-60 a few times. I got him a "Strat Pak " last week on eBay for $156 in beautiful condition. Recently I had him compare a friend's Larrivee D-60 (very fine guitar) against the D-55 (blind test), and it was no contest. He picked out the D-55 in a nano second. 8) He will be a much better musician than me. It's amazing... he told me nothing sounds like our Guilds when others come over... :)

Buenos noches,

I don't much care for the DV's myself  :D !

Hey hold on there West R Lee. You didn't tell me that when you sold me yours! I actually thought I was buying a great guitar? Whats going on here? Am I missing something? You never told me that? Your holding out on me! Now I find the truth about the way you feel about the DV 52? You cheater!

Truth be told I love my DV 52. I don't care what West R Lee has to say. I know he really likes that guitar. If you talk to anyone who has really owned one it would be hard to find some real serious complaints. We happen to have a DV 52 Club around here somewhere. They can vouch for me "I hope". This is a very under rated guitar. As far as I'm concerned they are just as good as any d 50.

Actually, a bit nicer than the Westerly D-50 :D

Although the new D-50's from Tacoma seem to have incorporated some of the DV-52 features.
