Many years ago I was contacted through my Guilds of Grot website about purchasing some Guild guitar prototype drawings. The guy emailed me a zip folder of pics of the drawings. At the time I didn't think they were worth what he wanted so I passed. When I was doing some computer backing up today I ran across the folder. As I started looking at them I had a realization I was going to find something I reconized!

Let's start here: Oh Gary! @GAD

Looks just like this doesn't it?

Here's the drawing for the new Pilot Bass!

Let's see what other cool stuff they were thinking!

I guess somebody decided attaching the neck at the 17th fret wasn't going to give enough access so the cut the body back!

Here's the next take on an X-79!

Not sure where they were going with this one!

How about this headstock?

And on to the next post we go!

And here's one for the Flat Top Folks!

And that's the lot!

So since we may know three of these came to life, what about the rest?

Wow, very cool and historically interesting. Especially the 30 fret neck! Thanks for sharing!

Fascinating to see those drawings - wow!
If those were still available somewhere, would be an epic piece of Guild history
to have in hand.

Dude - those are amazing! How big are they? We need to get those on a proper copy stand and digitized!

It's also especially cool when you have the drawings and the guitar that go with it like the one you showed in your first post. I've been fortunate to own a prototype G&L (see the F-150 below) and the drawing that goes with it (by George Fullerton, no less!). This particular guitar never went into production, but it was the basis for another G&L model - the S-500. It will be interesting to see if you and GAD can piece together the drawings with prototypes or if the concepts made it to any production models.

Alas, I don't have the paper drawings. At the time I felt the guy wanted too much money for them so I passed on them. I would have no idea as to how to track him/them down.

Wow! Thank you.

We should try and find them and then let GAD use them to keep his 3D printer busy :)

Glad I spotted that guitar and you and Gary were paying attention to the alert...neat to see that you have a copy of the design...this must be the one that Hans mentioned having made it to the prototype stage...Gary, can't you just 'borrow' Kurt's zip file and make some nice copies? With everyone having too much time on their hands whoever possesses these drawings now if still in existence might read this...maybe a 'wanted' post on reverb?

Depending on the size of the originals, yes.

Attempt at one of them:

Since there are close-ups of this one I could probably make it better, but the pics were all taken on an angle which complicates things.

I love Hans' comments in the old thread about them clearly not having any guitar designers. LOL.

This one tickles me because I've held that guitar. It's now in Grot's capable hands as evidenced by his pic above. Here for the comparison shot:
