Fever was gone this morning, but the whole body felt like I had overdone a workout. (Probably from shivering all day with fever.)
But I managed to get the end graft in and sand and shellac the sides.

Suitable for rubbing.

Only the high-end instruments get the "Cat Fur Rub."

I just discovered a new test for responsiveness in a soundboard. I was watching a Who concert DVD (Shea Stadium, 1982) and happened to pick up the uke body. Shortly I started noticing that there were strong sympathetic vibrations when I had my fingers lightly resting on the top.

Strings attached should be a piece of cake!

I got the neck blank glued up. In order to keep things light and not make it out of balance I used Spanish cedar with a strip of koa in the middle. This stuff is light! And, being Spanish cedar, as opposed to, say, figured maple, it'll be a breeze to carve.

It's times like these when you really mourn the lack of Feel-o-vision technology. (And Smell-o-vision in the case of Spanish cedar.) It's something that you have to experience first hand.

And be a wood nut.

Wood be fickle.
I ganged my bloodwood binding strips together after thicknessing so I can bend them all at once.
Doing the sharpest waist bend, 2 of them were cooperating. 2, not so much. Those two must have had a particular weak spot of runout right there. Sometimes it doesn't take much, but once it starts, that's game over for those strips.
Nothing for it but to cut a couple more strips. Preferably after the storm passes (have to go out to the workshop.)
