You didn't get this idea from Phyllis Diller's hair stylist did you?
Does clamping pressure vary or do you strive for same pressure on all clampings?
Same pressure. Firm, but not crushing. (The sides are only 1.75mm thick, after all.)
It looks like they have different settings, but with cam clamps, they are not built to uniform tolerances. It's all by feel.

Got the buttresses flown in last night and shaped this morning. REALLY tricky trying to carve them in place with very limited space for the knife. There may be a tiny nick of two on the inside walls.

And got started trimming the overhang with chisel, plane, and scraper.

Glad to see the Head of Research and Development earning their wages. And looks like maybe another promotion by becoming Head of Shipping.

I never understood how true “curiosity killed the cat” was until I actually had a cat.

Preparing the back, I came to the realization that it needed a backstrip, if only a thin one. There was too much diametrically opposed chatoyance between the book matched halved, not uncommon in koa, that was too jarring. This little strip of red in between is enough of a wall to get rid of the distraction. (Looking at the offcut on top, it's the narrower width that'll be seen, not the wider surface facing up in the photo.)

With the glue dried overnight, I can get the strip flushed down.

With it resanded and a fresh sealer coat of shellac, that thin strips of red really does a great job of breaking up the conflicting chatoyance patterns.
