Coastie,

I don't have an A-50, but recently acquired a mint A-25. The A-25 is the A-50 with less fancy appointments, same exact body style but spruce/mahogany versus spruce/rosewood. Lots of vintage Guild sound in these remarkable little guitars and surprising punch.

Everything looks original/identical to mine except high gloss finish, and she also looks to be in great condition. I have not seen a bad review of either model and their owners swear by them. I'm now on that list as well.

This little girl would be a swell addition to your stable. If this one would have been available here, I would definitely have put in a bid, but I sure love my A-25. :D

Thank you AJ.

I'd prefer a satin finished guitar, and a Spruce/Mahogany combination, but I've made an opening bid.

I really need an F30 to come up for auction, but the chances of that happening are pretty remote.

Hi Coastie: here's a series of eBay auction links to show what's been going by the boards recently: F30s and an F40
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=009

The one below is the one I prematurely ejumpulated on … seller took it back and funded … except for one mistake, nice enough refin but no more adjustment in saddle/neck…. lighter than I’d expected but that was compared to the F212; top so tight w/ new finish impossible to appreciate tone. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=014

A very pretty F30 sunburst; http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=004

Thanks guys.

I remember seeing that SB F30 and thinking that it just had to be re-finished.

I've gone stone-cold on buying on Ebay, or more to the point, I'm seriously worried about shipping issues, given the recent Thunder 1 shemozzle !

I'm going to follow that Newsyland A50; if I did buy it, and for some reason didn't like it, it would make a great Christmas prezzie for our grand-daughter.

At the edge of too much risk: doubling down at the eBay Blackjack table: will it be a piece of junk and will it get here in one piece ... will keep eyes and potato(e?)s peeled... Pretty one here: Trading Musician 1970 F30SB not cheap but... cj

Or Coast,

You could buy the A50 for me, I'll buy the F30 for you, and we'll ship them to each other! :D
Like those A50s. But like Cappy says, would they make it?

Very nice looking guitar. I would compare it to my Blueridge BR-163 only not as much inlay detail. I would think that it would possibly sell for up to $550-? If I didn't have the BR I would definitely put a bid in.

You're up against it a bit for local availability, fer sure.

Greymouth being so close to the bottom of the World & little else.

Anything local on Craiglist

Cooled considerably here the last few days,

Post a link to the F30 you like Gary.

West

Haven't been "actively" looking for one West.

Response from A50 seller to my questions...................

No issues at all with this guitar ? Cosmetic condition ? No bellying ? Neck true ? And, by the way, you have the TRC upside-down. Cheers, Gary. posted by: mofg (82 ) 7:38 am, Sat 24 Nov
Cosmetic condition is excellent, there appears to be about 2mm of bellying (sound-hole sink, bridge elevation), measured by placing a straight edge on the top, not sure if this is a "seasonal variation", no issue with the neck and the TRC is the correct way up, its black on the underside and has a bevel edge which is in the correct orientation when the brown top is showing. Thanks for your interest. 12:00 pm, Sat 24 Nov

Thanks Richard. Re. the TRC., it should be orientated wide-end to the top, narrow to the bottom. posted by: mofg (82 ) 12:33 pm, Sat 24 Nov

There's a couple on Ebay right now; one from the "recent" Westerly plant - 1994 - and an older one, from 1973, I think.
Just type in "Guild Acoustic guitar", then scroll down. You'll find it.

Thanks MM.

I've bid 600 Kiwis for the A50 and some cad has overbid me with 700.

Doesn't look like I'm going to "steal" it !!

Hi Coastie - I have an A50. Thought I'd pipe in here with a penny or two's worth ...

I like the 1 3/4" neck (sweeet) and they're comfortable to play due to their size. I don't know if mine's typical, but tone-wise it's very balanced and has a unique punchy/woody tone. It took me a while to get used to it and for months when I thought of "thinning the herd" it was in the potential candidates list, but every single time I brought that lil' girl out to play and took the time to really appreciate her she immediately was off the sales list!

To my ear the tone of the A50 I have is kind of a combination of a really good mandolin (lots of percussion/punch), and an archtop (articulate sound without a ton of bass). If you look closely, these are sort of the shape of an OM Martin but the bottom is flatter - this might be responsible for the shallower bass tones. You could probably label the tone "boxy" if you wanted to - not as much depth as an OM or F30 in the bass register - but it's such a unique and woody sounding guitar it's easy to overlook the shortcomings and appreciate it's strong points. I especially like it for single-string noodling...

The auction pics of the A50 you're looking at shows one shot of the strings/body at the neck joint - is it me or do those strings look pretty far from the fingerboard...? Reset candidate? Bargaining point w/seller?

Good luck - they are sweet little guitars. :D :D
