So now I'm under Doctors orders to quit drinking beer, he says its gonna kill me if I keep it up. That sounds as good as any reason to quit. But its not like I'm drinking myself into oblivion, I have 2 maybe 3 beers a night.

But I have quaffed a great quantity of frosty cold ones in my time. I rarely drink anything but beer. Started in high school, when they lowered the drinking age to 18. We were going into the bars as seniors in high school.

Then there was the Navy - you just gotta drink beer!

Zoom ahead several years and they came out with craft beers and craft breweries. Great beers but oh good, now I can pay higher prices for beer.

Anyway, I quit yesterday and. It's not like I'm climbing the walls or anything.

Finally, I could think of worse things to die from than a cold beer in the belly.

I have consumed a total of about two bottles of beer in my life.
Vile stuff.
Although it is apparently good for washing one's hair.
Last time I drank beer was in April 1974 on my birthday. I was in university and my neighbours, who were four small town lads from Northern Ontario whose every story began with " First we got drunk and then we...." were astonished to hear that I didn't drink.
After getting over their disbelief, one of them asked, " Then how do you have fun?", and they insisted that I chug a beer, you know, to celebrate my birthday, and perhaps show me how wrong I was.
Have never touched the stuff since.

One bottle of beer every night with dinner - Amber ales from small regional breweries. Gotta say, I absolutely look forward to that one bottle (never a can!) & for me, it’s a daily quality of life moment - along with good coffee, almonds, & 85% dark chocolate.

Quit over 30 years ago and still miss it to this day. Especially while sitting around a nice bon fire or after a good meal. For me it wasn't as much of a health thing as the fact I'm a cheap SOB. When they got to $2.50/pack I said no more.
Life is too short to drink cheap booze. when I was in college it was all about cheap and quantity. Today it’s all about quality and moderation. If I have a beer at night I’m usually splitting a can of nice IPA with my wife, but savoring every sip.

Congrats to those who have kicked the habit however, as it is much healthier for you.

Never drank any alcohol again after getting totally wasted first of college. Sick as a dog the next day. Never missed it at all. Seriously, think how much money I saved in the the 45 years!

Good luck. Make sure to reach for a guitar during those anxious moments when you really want a beer. If that doesn't work, strenuous labor with a chainsaw always does the trick for me.

Mrs. Fro's grandfather had a prescription for one beer a day. It was for legitimate medical reasons but probably not how medicine is best practiced several decades later.

The medical evidence for and against alcohol consumption varies and you have to read the fine print and not the headlines if you really want to know what is likely to help or harm you. But two 12oz, 5% ABV beers a day is enough to be a medical problem if there are other factors. So your doctor is almost certainly advising in your best interest. To find a silver lining in this perhaps you could explore the emerging non-alcoholic beer options and let us know whether any of them are worth drinking.

Good luck with the adjustment.

I've taken to the non-alcoholic beer options, which I happen to like. I am NOT a beer connisseur, however. And I get amused at family and friends to whom I offer one -- they just look at me with a "so what's the point?" look on their faces. FYI, I think the Heineken 00 is good, as well as the Clausthaler, Dry Hopped. Again I'm not a "cap sniffer".

Alcohol lowers your blood sugar temporarily. Quitting drinking will result in a more typical blood glucose level. After a short period, blood sugar levels will stabilize, and you will experience several positive health changes. One way that the body eliminates excess sugar is by turning it into fat.

Too much drinking, on the other hand (more than three drinks daily), can lead to higher blood sugar and A1C.

So maybe it's blood sugar related? Not sure in dread's case....
