Vastly under-experienced guitarist.
No Jumbo / Dreadnought to compare with.
Tuned her down to Open D, and made guitar-playing noises as best I could.
Most striking initial impression was that the prominent mid-range seemed to have gone, leaving the Guild cliched "balanced" sound.
Neither quiet nor loud, but quieter than I expected it to be. Lovely warm tone though; that's why I like Mahogany. Probably attributable in part also, to the FWI accessories.
Doesn't respond well to loud, rapid-fire chord playing. Sounded, don't know. (My inexperience) Confused and messy is best I can explain.
Fabulous sustain, no doubt also attributable to the FWI.
Don't have the experience to describe the "feel" of the neck. I guess it's not too small anyway, 'cos it didn't tire my large-ish hand.
Major downer for me: It's a finger-pickin' guitar, and I can't fingerpick ! Pick attack sounds bloody awful, picked gently or vigorously !
But remember my opening caveat; I'm not well experienced in practical terms.
I'm also familiar only with Elixir strings; I don't remember what West said he'd strung it with.
I love the aesthetics of it, and I love its warmth and sustain. Its relative quietness doesn't bother me, 'cos I'm only ever going to play at home, for my own satisfaction. ( One of these days, I might tell you about my chronic "stage fright" ).
Do some brands of strings accentuate pick attack ?
I use a thumb-pick 'cos I can't get the hang of holding onto a flat-pick.
Might a different profile thumb-pick make a difference ?
Looking over this guitar, and noting its pristine condition, I wonder if it has actually "broken in" yet ?
I guess, hardly the definitive guitar revue; it's the best I can do.
