So I have not been active much here for awhile because I have to admit I've been on "the dark side"- i.e., mostly content with my '68 Gibson J50. In the back of my mind however, I was never fully comfortable with a Gibson.

So when I stumbled across Richard's '67 D40 Electric for sale, and he provided a very fair price for me- I felt I should grab it because I have long wanted an "E" model, and I'm thinking about playing live at some point in the near future.

So I grabbed it, and now I've got it and- I have to say it's probably my fave D40 of the several I've had (two from '66, another from '67, and a '68- along with a '67 D44). So my '68 J50 is now for sale.

Very very cool. If I should google “What does ‘vintage vibe’ mean? I’m pretty sure a picture of that D40 will pop up😮

I’m asking a bit of a high price for my J50. Because it’s pretty dang clean for a ‘60s Gibson, it has a tall saddle with no neck reset ever performed, but mostly because of the ‘60s Gibsons I’ve played … this is the only *great* one.

Yeh I’m sure I’ll be making a couple videos at some point soon. I actually have no amp to plug it into, so not sure on that yet. I guess I’ll find out when I show up at a venue LOL.

Oh yes, a Richard Peterson Guild, but also a Tom Jacobs Guild FYI. Neck was not reset, but I remember the original post Richard made about this and it’s pretty gone over. It had some funky bridge on there that looked like it was from a Harmony or classical guitar originally. Saddle is about as low as you can comfortably get, but the action is just about where I like it. Plays about the same as the J50 overall.

It's just plain truth that Gibson made inconsistent guitars in the sixties, and things got worse in the seventies. But my, did a few really good ones slip through. Hunting sixties Gibsons is a chore, but well worth it when you find one. I was looking for one when I got the Gibson bug what must have been 7 or eight years ago. I must have tracked down a dozen, then hit the mother lode when I walked into a shop with four J 45s. One was worth considering, the others were shades of bad. The same shop had what was to become my pride and joy, a 65 Epiphone Texan. I could not believe it came off the same assembly line. If I had a truly good J 45 or J 50, I would not sell it for less than $4k.

Still, it won't be everyone's cup of tea.
