it is in that spot on my 84 SF-4, which also has the MV in the same spot as yours, and has a Guildsby, california pickups, dots on the fretboard, and no pickguard, all from factory original. mine was mint too when i got it 3 years ago. my label does not say "special," and mine does not have the phase switch.
