    1967 T-100D

But we're not talking about the odd Guild here. I've played probably a dozen from the mid-late '60s with the middle position out of phase - more than I've played with it in phase. It was definitely the norm for a while, though I don't have enough of a sample size to say which years or which...

    1967 T-100D

Yes, of course they would be checking. That's why manufacturing companies have final inspection. The idea that the factory would not know that half the guitars were wired differently from the other half would have been absurd, even in 1967. Far cheaper guitars than Guilds did not have this...

    1967 T-100D

I can't accept that the out-of-phase pickups were unintentional. Every other guitar builder, from Fender and Gibson to Harmony and Kay, got it consistent, yet Guild didn't care?

    1967 T-100D

The front is as clean as it looked in GC's photos. The back is almost as clean, with a few small spots of melted lacquer where it sat against a cable or something for 50 years; there's a little finish wear to the back edges, but overall it's better than your average T-100. The switch is a...

WTB A pair of cups/feet for a floating bridge

I managed to get some of the reissue feet but unfortunately they're not usable for what I have in mind. Unlike the old ones, they can't be angled to meet the curve of the top.

Checking the date of a D-212

Five years ago, I bought a nice Taylor 12-string. It still sounds great, but for five years I've been fighting with that horrible neck. No more. I just got this near-mint D-212 back from a bridge reglue, and between its chunky neck and glorious sound, the Taylor's going up for sale tomorrow. And...

    Another Starfire Q?

Different pots may have different tapers. They also have different tolerances, and interact differently with different pickups. Two Les Paul Studios may not exhibit exactly the same behavior.

    Identification help?

The pickups are definitely backwards from intended, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes with adjustable poles.

    Identification help?

The whole body and neck are definitely homemade. Not Japanese and certainly not a Guild, as others have said. The pickups look like the Pix units that Hofner called the style 513, though the rings and the black screws suggest that they might be Schaller-made copies.

    1971 Gibson EB-1 ?

The reissue actually has a very different pickup from the original. The '50s EB had an enormous single-coil unit, while the later ones had the same "mudbucker" as the EB-0 and EB-3. As a result, it sounds quite a bit like an EB-0. The thick carved body made it heavier than an EB-0, and I'm...

Dearmonds vs Littlebucker, what do you prefer?

The mini-humbuckers are easily my least favorite of Guild's 50s/60s/70s pickups. The only guitar I've liked them on is the Starfire XII. I don't think they sound anything at all like the DeArmonds. Granted, the original DeArmonds were quite inconsistent, but I have never heard one that truly...

I bought something crazy- now what should I do? Fender 160 PS Content

According to the schematic, the two output jacks are in parallel and coming off a single output transformer. Since it's a standard mono amp, you should be able to plug in one cab without an issue as long as it's the right impedance. The total load of 2.6 ohms is a bit tricky, though; a regular 2...

Gibson GA-17RVT Scout - any chance this speaker could be original?

I just acquired this amp and wow, it really kicks! Despite the push-pull 6AQ5 power section, the volume is closer to a Champ than a Deluxe, albeit with less breakup than either but a much nicer sound. And while there's just one preset tone, it comes with onboard reverb and tremolo at just 27...

    Mickey Mouse Pickup Appreciation Thread!

I'd be very interested in a set of MM pickups in a modern standard size. I suspect the bobbins are a hair too big for a Strat cover, but maybe a P90?

1970 Guild Starfire II bass - 2-way pickup switch

That looks like the original switch tip, though granted it could be installed on a non-original switch. I'm also confused because it looks like it's in the center position. I still suspect it's the original switch but something weird is going on with the contacts. If I'm right, it should be easy...

1970 Guild Starfire II bass - 2-way pickup switch

No, the original switch would have been a 3-way. Does it look like a conventional pickup selector switch? I'm wondering if the contacts are bent out of shape and it simply doesn't sit nicely in the center position anymore. Is the switch up by the horn or down by the knobs?

1956 X-175... or 1955, or 1954, or all of the above

A quick update: yeah, it was the switch and the neck pickup works fine. However, it has the "mud" cap like some other early Guilds which renders the neck pickup almost useless. I went in and snipped one end; it's still there, hanging in the breeze, and the guitar sounds 500% better now. The...

    Identifying dearmond pickups

I wonder if this is another early/late difference, because none of mine did.
