In those days, neck and bridge pickups were identical. I would put the higher-DCR pickup in the bridge, whichever that turns out to be.

I believe the pickup mounting covers were different heights for bridge and neck with the bridge being taller. On my early 60’s Starfire with Dearmonds the pickup cover heights are around 3/8“ and 1/2” for the neck and bridge respectively.

The Kustoms used the same height pickup for each position. The neck is parallel to the body on these guitars so the pickups are at the same height.

The Kustom versions have the same staggered heights as the others.

The black plastic is molded with a slight depression that fits the shape of the cutout, so if you mix covers I think there will be either a small gap, or you'll be able to see the Kustom shape in the black plastic inside the larger frame opening (depending on which way you mix and match).

Hopefully you can see those features in this pic. The one on the right is open (and has a different lead) because it was rewound by Duncan years ago.

Hmm I’ll have to look into that. I must say I’m a little bit scared to take the pickup out of the metal casing. How are they fixed to each other anyway?

For that version, they are held together with black glue. Older ones had a reddish glue.

The rewound one I have did not have the glue replaced, it doesn't seem to be really necessary, it just keeps them together. I don't think it goes all the way in and around the coil like potting material (but I haven't actually taken one apart myself).

I could part with the single rewound one. I will check again to see which position it is. If it's the neck position, spacers are available to use it in the bridge.

That would be great. I’ve send you a pm.
