Good Review On The New D-50

What differences do you hear? Is the difference due to the satin vs. gloss finish? Are necks attached the same?

‘76 D55 Neck Reset, Replace Bridge?

Generally I’d agree with you, but as I said, I’m very fond of the guitar’s sound and fear that a major restructuring will change it. I’ll certainty discuss it with the luthier. One alternative would be to do the neck reset without replacing the bridge, see how it sounds and woks. If need be I...

    Pawn Shop D-100

Did you play it at all? How does it sound? And, what kind of wood is the back made from? Certainly not rosewood. But, hey, for $13 it would be cheap enough to give to a young kid to bang on…..

‘76 D55 Neck Reset, Replace Bridge?

Here’s why I’m really asking the question. I really like the sound of this guitar and I’m afraid changing the bridge will alter that sound. Of course, so may a higher than normal saddle with the current lower bridge. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? To give you a little background, I...

‘76 D55 Neck Reset, Replace Bridge?

I haven’t taken it in yet to be done. He’s backed up with work. Seems like all luthiers in the area are super busy. I measured the height at the 6th string. It is 5/16, with hardly ANY saddle height. My 2005 D50 is 7/16, as is my F40 ad D50. ‘68 D40 8/16. This had a recent neck reset.

‘76 D55 Neck Reset, Replace Bridge?

Sorry, I am NOT doing my own neck reset. I’ve got someone that did a reset on my ‘68 D40. There is no pick up, and I will be having the saddle, nut, and 5 or so frets replaced.

‘76 D55 Neck Reset, Replace Bridge?

I’m planning to do a neck reset on my 1976 D55. Measuring the bridge, it is thinner than all the other Guild bridges I have. I suspect someone shaved the bridge in the past instead of doing a neck reset. I’ve only owned the guitar for 15 years. Should I replace the bridge? What effect on the...

    Questions about a "New" 2007 F-47m

I’d certainly go with a dreadnaught, then. I’d even go to a D50. I have a Tacoma D 50, an it’s a perfect complement to my D40 and the arch back D25 (which I sold). The Adirondack topped rosewood D50 is a great for strumming as well as leads and especially flat picking . Great warm tone and...

    Questions about a "New" 2007 F-47m

I chose the D 50 because I prefer the sound of a dred over the sound of an OM, though or remember I really did like its sound. At the time I was doing more strumming interspersed with some flat picking to play along with my singing. Don’t know what style you play, but if it’s fingerpicking, or...

    D100 NT

Thanks for posting that, really liked the Coors at the time. I understand the lead singer died not too long ago. Back to that D100, WOW, gorgeous. Let me know if it doesn’t strike your fancy…😃, it would look good hanging in my living room.

    Questions about a "New" 2007 F-47m

If this guitar is in the Los Angeles area, I may have played it years ago. Really nice, but I bought a D50. If this is at California Vintage Guitar and Amp, I have bought several guitars there and the guys who run are pretty straight nice guys. if this is the store you’re talking about, I no...

    70s D-40, worth the restore

I bought a beat up ‘68 D40 some years ago. I had a neck reset, 5 frets replaced annd some braces refluxed, and I am so glad I did, what a great warm sound it has, and it’s so easy to play. Money well spent in my mind. Some day when I leave this earth, someone will cont to enjoy that aged wood.

    New D-xx Standards vs Traditional

Welcome aboard. That bass note you're looking for is a rosewood sound, mahogany can have a nice bass, but just not the pipe organ/harp sound you describe. You could look for an older (cheaper) D55 , or try a D50 as a comparison. I have a 2008 D50, you can get them used around $1600. Worth...
