Sounds like one of those Victorian/Edwardian era 'heartless ditties'. My father, born in Bristol (England), often quoted this one:
Oh mother dear what is that mess, that looks like strawberry jam?
Hush hush my dear it is your pa, run over by a tram.
The driver took an oily rag, and wiped him from the rail.
The tram went off to Arno's Court, the rag to Arno's Vale.
Background info. In the early 20th century Arno's Court was where the tramway centre was in Bristol and Arnos Vale was the Bristol Cemetery.
