About 15 years ago I got me a Studer 900 mixing console - I took two channel strips home first - to study them - while thinking where in the world I'm going to find a spot for it. It was a floor-standing 200kg 2 meter wide desk.
So i'm at home studying these channel strips and my wife asks me what on earth are those - I tell her - and it so happens, that I have this wonderful book "Die Sprechenden Maschinen"
And it also happens that there is a centerfold picture of said 900 console - I show it to my wife . . .
Above is NOT the picture from that book - but a console made using same parts - the frame is same size
She says : " Wow - thats neat!"
I'm amazed - "But you do not like audio gear?"
She : "This is different - have you thought where to put it?"
I actually had thought of a spot in our living room but never thought to utter that to her.
So she points at that very spot - we had a not-so-pretty cabinet there - and says : "if you get rid of that cabinet - would it be ok spot?"
So - that's whwre it ended - to be later replaced by same size Studer 980 console.
Picture is now ten years old - still here - right about 6ft behind my back as I'm typing.
But I have had my pleasure of it - and it is time to let it go - no more big mixing consoles in my house after this one.
OH - the reason I tell all this - naturally just about everybody who saw it here was asking : "What does your wife say about it?" And I tell them : "She asked if that's a good spot!" - so most of them ask : "How can one find a wife like that?" - and I say : " You have to let her have her way with all them "girlie-things" - even if you do not necessarely understand them
. . ."
