Moi? Who delivered "Levi Strauss' blue genes"?...

Al, you cause us to pause and reflect upon the Straussian theory of JEAN-etics, where blue seams to be the distinguishing trait. Blue is often associated with sad, and an entire genre of music has that understanding zipped up, so to speak. But there is another context where blue means so more than sad, and even includes glad and happy. It isn’t an exercise, or something one needs to practice. Blue is rather a defining characteristic, a wearable trait and, according to Strauss, is something anyone can possess. It is the underlying thread that weaves throughout the very fabric of existence. People from all walks of life are suddenly engaged, no one is cut, nobody gets the boot. Tall, slim, wide, straight, relaxed…everyone belongs, everyone fits.

Mr. Strauss (Levi to his friends) was a lover of life, and a gifted writer. Not one to be hemmed in by deadlines, yet always appearing pressed for time, he authored many a tale. His one and only screenplay was inked as a musical which sought to address the emotions of extreme gaiety and moribund sadness as something other than psychological disorders, as seen through the eyes of small animals. The Secret of deNIM was never produced, though some suggest it was later plagiarized as a cartoon.

He was a great speaker, and had a flare for comedy. His performances were riveting, renowned for leaving his audience in stitches. He pocketed the earnings from his performances as though they didn't matter and, in an off the cuff remark, rebuffed his critics once and for all with this statement, "What is love, after all, but a pair of genes?”
