you guys are killin' me

How could I forget about Muskrat Love? :? Actually, that question needs no answer.

Wasn't "Little Black Egg" the first song everyone learned in the 60's? Who needs to understand the lyrics, it was the 60's!

We were at an open mic and this big lug of a guy got up front with his guitar and proceeded to do an absolutely horrid rendition of Petula Clark's Downtown - "Awright, everybody sing! Downtown..." My partner leaned over to me and said "The only possibility that we would ever do that song is for comic relief, but he's dead serious", and he was. LMAO

I might add that although there have been many repeats posted, Helen Reddy has been nominated for three seperate songs!

Boy I must be getting too non-PC. I'm learning "Throw Another Log on the Fire", not really that hard to play and sing. Problem is a lot of nitwits out there don't get the irony, sigh....

I like Vikki Carr and all, but this song...whew!

"I tell myself what's done is done
I tell myself don't be a fool
Play the field have a lot of fun
It's easy when you play it cool

I tell myself don't be a chump
Who cares let him stay away
That's when the phone rings
And I jump
And as I grab the phone I pray...

Let it please be him
Oh dear God
It must be him
It must be him
Or I shall die
Or I shall die

Oh hello, hello,
My dear God, it must be him
But it's not him and then I die
That's when I die"

Can someone prescribe this poor lady a sedative?

I would be just fine if I never, ever, heard "Long Train Runnin'," "Stairway To Heaven," or "Free Bird" again (because of extreme radio overplay), but that's just me.

Another type of song that drives me crazy: self-indulgent, self-absorbed (and sometimes self-pitying) lyrics that whine, "all by myself" (Eric Carmen), or "here I go again, on my own" (Whitesnake), or "alone again, naturally" (Gilbert O' Sullivan).

Aaaaaagh!

Dancing Queen - Abba.

It's not that the song is so bad but I just spent way too much time standing in line at the Post Office (because there was only one clerk on duty) and that was the only music (Muzak?) I recognized.

Especially this cold weather

You hit it on the head Jerro.......by the way, Happy Birthday, though a late one sir.

Thanks Jim - and I'm adding 'Put another log' to my repertoire - I love the sensitive 'new man' lyrics

I'm with you, Boris - if I never hear "Long Train Runnin'" again it will be too soon. Great song that was murdered by the radio stations. If you ever hear the Doobs on the radio, chances are it will be this song. The Captain and Me is one of my favorite albums, too. But you never hear them play "Dark-Eyed Cajun Woman", ever.

The Doobie Brothers are my favorite rock band all-time. Hope that doesn't ruffle any feathers, but honestly I probably could listen to Long Train Runnin' all day. Would prefer to hear Dark-eyed Cajun Woman more though too! :)

Yeah Chaz, I saw them live in San Diego in '74, they rocked. Then they stopped here 35 years later in '09. The concert was great, they rocked, but they did not do Dark Eyed Cajun Woman (no matter how many times I yelled it out  )

Such poignant lyrics.
I wonder, too, if thorazine alone should get all the credit for this inspiring moldie.
