Why are D25s all of a sudden so interesting?

I'll tell ya Fungus, my personal opinion is that the existence of LTG has raised eBay prices of Guilds.

A couple things that do surprise me:

- How long have you been able to see how many people are "watching" a guitar on Ebay if you're not the one selling it?
- 70 people watching a D25

Here's my best guess... which might account for some of the watchers, but I don't pretend to know the market. D25's are plentiful. They were made for about 40 years, and I suspect there was a significant number more of D25's produced vs. any other Guild flat top year to year during most of that span.

So, could 1/3 or 1/2 of the "watchers" be potential future sellers trying to gauge the market given how crazy the economy has been? Not many other guitars have increased in value during the past 3 years or so, but I'd suspect D25's have. Of course, another % of those watchers are interested in buying one. There's also been quite a bit of praise about D25's that at least partially started here, but I've seen them referenced on many other boards with increased frequency during the past 3- 4 years... so I'd guess there is some "buzz" factor.
That's what I was trying to say..
The website I use correlates and lists hundreds of categories of "collectables" from Ebay. It shows you how many are watching a particular item, pretty cool..

Ya know, that may be true but I'm thinking it's the existence of EBAY that raised the prices on everything. It's tough to get a "real good" deal on just about everything these days. But one can certainly find just about anything on EBAY.

Don't get me wrong - I stand by my apology above - but what conclusion are you trying to draw from the number of watchers? I stopped counting when I reached 25 auctions for Fender gear with over 100 watchers. I even found 10 auctions in Art Pottery with over 50 watchers. There were several other categories that seemed pretty obscure to me that generated 100 watchers at least once.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that people watch in preparation for making a decision to sell a similar item.
Hi dubbabubba; lots of people watch actual (not BIN) auctions to find out what the stuff they're interested in is selling for.

Maybe to sell as Dr. F suggests but also to measure the 'going cost' of things as in: "Gee ... I wonder what an early '60s SF w/ DeA pickups would cost me on eBay?" You can't track through e-shops because those are 'asked' prices; only eBay auctions that close with a sale will give you an idea of what things might cost.

The number of watchers ... I don't think ... means much of anything unless you are watching Schrödinger's cat which would indicate that you have too little to do ... or really want a 'thought-provoking' Quantum headache

The guitar has cracks all around. Why the interest?
I'm convinced that it's because people think it's all hog.
I sent the owner a message telling him it wasn't..but he didn't change the info.

I've added the guitar to my watch list, because I saw it mentioned in a post on LTG.

Simple as that! :)

Dubba, I didn't want you to think I was busting your chops.

I am one of those guys who watches quite a bit of stuff without actually buying it. Every interesting Guild and especially those from either '69 or '70? Yep. All the old Sano tube amps? Yep. A game worn Jamie Moyer jersey? Yep. Rare records by Gabby Pahinui, Plas Johnson and Kid Ory? Yep. A publicity photo of a young Kermit Ruffins? Yep. A collection of books on Northwest history? Yep. Out of print classic films on VHS? Yep. Standard 8 and 16mm movie cameras? Yep. All of those things and more are on my watch list.

Everyone approaches eBay differently, but more often than not I am just browsing through a really big junk store. Although I do make regular purchases on the 'bay, much of my bookmarking is for fun and research.
Again...the D25 garners a LOT of interest, which is the point of the thread..yes?

Are you referring to the counter at the bottom of the auction pages? Are you sure that's watchers and not just the number of times the page has been viewed ... like the counters on nearly every other webpage?

The sellers know how many people have added their guitars to Watch Lists ... do you know for sure that's what that counter means? Anyway, here's a Funky old F40 w/ a counter at 127. Does that mean it has garnered a LOT of interest? For fun, I added it to my Watch List ... went back and checked but the counter didn't turn over ...

Unless you are going to look at other Guild models, toaster ovens, and used car mechanics tools ... whether watchers or just plain viewers ...

I get the part about how you're interested in the model.

I have put this link up a few times now...it shows what the bids are, and how many watchers there are.

I stumbled across that site once or twice. It is kinda interesting. I still maintain that at least some of the interest in D25's specifically is due to the fact that it IS Guild's most-built model. But I have better understanding of your point. IF you actually wanted demonstrate more interest in say, D-25's vs other Guild models, the obvious method would be to compare the number of watchers of other Guild models compared to D-25s for whatever time period you chose. The longer the better, probably.
Your original point may well be borne out. At least you'd be using the same yardstick of measurement between different models. Personally I think everything that's been posted in this thread is an element of the "total interest" in any collectible, and the "interest" is not neccessarily directly correlated with "intention to buy".

But...you did it because the D25 and what it's doing interests you...yes?

Define "interest". :) Interested in buying it? Not really. Interested in what the final price will be? Maybe a little bit. Interested because it's getting talked about on a long thread at LTG? Yes. :)

I routinely hit the maximum 200 count on my watch list and have to go back and delete stuff... and 75% of the stuff I don't even remember putting on the watch list, let alone why!!

Well, to be fair, if the word "sudden" was not in the title, I suspect it would have been a very different thread. I also suspect that we are not in agreement as to whether 100 watchers is a LOT of interest or just typical.
